If you had a problem it would be sorted walk in centre's or A and E will not ask you for anything apart from basic information they really are not inrested in your visa card, and the chance that your girl will need a big operation from a pre exsiting condition is very small, look upon it like this, there is risk attached to everything you do I.E crossing a fast road.

Kendo you are correct in saying that seafarers receive the same care as anyone else should they need to be admitted to hospital but it is not quite as simple as you state and their treatment is not necessarily free.

The agent for whichever shipping company is involved will agree to pay all expenses and he will pass the costs back to the shipping company who in turn will pass them over to what is called a P&I Club which is basically the ship's insurance company.

There is a worldwide agreement that should seafarers be taken ill or injured they will be given full treatment in which ever Country they are in.

Should there be a problem then the Mission to Seamen will step in as needed, even if just to provide a visit to anyone who has been hospitalised. The Mission to Seaman are the unsung heros of the shipping world.

I think it's important to make sure everyone gets it clear in their head that NHS care is only free to the extent that no bill is (usually) presented to the patient.
NHS care and treatment is NOT FREE. It is funded by taxation paid by the UK worker.

Thanks for the replies, My girlfriend is fit and healthy, no problems there and yes she's only here for a couple of months, supposedly !? so i cant really foresee any problems.

Good idea, about taking a visit to local restuarants and asking where they buy their raw products, couple of Thai places in my town (Maldon) maybe they can be of help regarding food !!!

Kendo, where are you based ? a beer sometime sounds good...

Regards
