Pattaya and Phuket do not have the same level of dog problem, probably because they have arrangements in place to keep the numbers down. 12 years ago Hua Hin did not have the same level of dog problem, then Hua Hin became the royal resort and the problem has escalated. Sorry you animal lovers but in all reality it is a serious problem for most residents of Hua Hin, not only causing distress to tourists but creating many serious motorcycle and car accidents. If you ride a m/cycle or a bicycle how many times have you been chased down the road by 1 or more barking dogs? Dog mess everywhere cannot be good for our health nor can the condition of the dogs. Strange how Buddhism seems to prevent the locals putting the animals out of their misery but apparently allows them to kick the crap out of them or beat them silly with a lump of 2x2. 1 or 2 people trying to take on the problem without veterinary skills will not work, all it does for those people is make them believe they are a good person.

Hi Pinky - many moons ago a very gentle, slightly overweight and waddly dog from Poolsuk used to wander down to my place on Kanjanomai. She had a skin infection too, and it bothered me 1) because of the distress to the dog and 2) because some customers didn't like a 'scabby' dog wandering around.
My MamaSan got that blue liquid stuff which we painted on. Think its the stuff they used to use in hospitals years ago, gentian violet maybe? Anyway - one healthy dog for very few baht.
I do agree that some soi dogs are beyond help, or just can't be handled, but many just need a little TLC and respect.

Well see dang, the problem is where do you draw the line. There is a problem and if the blue stuff could rectify all of the problems then what a lovely world it would be. Imagine all the bankers in the world turned blue and no financial crisis, oh sorry george w that has already happened and it was only 3 trillion usd! Seriously the problem needs some serious rectification and there appears to be no will or desire on behalf of those in a position of responsibilty to take any action. If someone could come up with a serious and workable answer that I could support then for sure I would look at it and no, a rescue centre has proved not to be the answer in the past, the dogs simply get rounded up, fed medicine and made better when they promptly jump the fence and return to town only to be back at the hospital again in a short time. I see only two answers, one is that the government or the tessabaan or the community stump up a lot of cash or we call in the guys from the glue factory, unless that is you have a better idea!

Yeah Clive, we know the blue stuff isn't the answer to it all! But really must jump to the defence of the rescue centre. A lot of hard work went into it for a lot of years. Latterly against much opposition and harrasment. OK, I do accept that some dogs are beyond help. I also understand that many people won't want a rescue centre next door to them. I would love to see a national policy of neutering, and responsible dog ownership on the part of our Thai friends.

Strange quoting myself, first time. Pinky, if you have a look at some of the previous threads on this topic/general area then it will help/explain a lot.spitfire wrote:....but this can be a bit of a 'Pandora's box' topic ie open with care.
Interesting reads! Christmas isn't too far away is it richard.

OP I believe Lindosfan has pm'ed you. If you want help with the dogs, you can get in touch, via him. Although the center has been forcibly closed, I'm still working with dogs.
Just to correct some misinformation on HHAD that I've been informed about. Yes, I've moved. Yes, I have had a period of only being online via internet cafes, but am online at home, now. Thanks for your concern, nevets, I'm fine & am still on the wooden forum a lot. The reason I don't post on here anymore is known to admin. It is nothing to do with my home or computer access situations.

Good to see that you at least popped in Dawn. Hope all is going well at the new digs for you and your son. Time heals all wounds. Hope to see you back here more often. If not, the holidays are fast approaching and wishing you and your's all the best.

As per mine and Dawns post, Dawn is still working with dogs. Headrock dogs has rehomed most of the dogs and the rest have gone to another centre. Headrock dogs is continuing with its work with dogs. Dawn has not stopped doing this work at all. With the centre closing it will give her more time to work with the strays on neutering and general health problems.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
