from out of town, and noticed car registration/tax has expired. already sqared my insurance away, but would like to pay tax on car and continue on monday.

car tax/registration renew
I get mine from the office discussed in this thread, north of Cha Am:http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/wh ... %20license
There could be a problem here, but I'm not sure? Registration renewal is inclusive of getting a new sticker for the windshield. I think these can only be issued by the province in which the vehicle is registered and bears a license plate from.
Before , my truck was registered in Bangkok and each year I had to have someone do it for me in Bangkok after faxing copies of the current documents and sticker. Couldn't do it in Chonburi province. Pete

I have my insurance company do it for me when I renew the coverage. I live and my car is registered in Hua Hin and the insurance office I use is in Pattaya... they seem to be able to pay the road tax and get the sticker for me over there. It comes to me in the post in the same envelope as the policy posted from Pattaya...
Re: car tax/registration renew
This happened to me last year when I was in the North, and again this year while in Bangkok!laphanphon wrote:from out of town, and noticed car registration/tax has expired. already sqared my insurance away, but would like to pay tax on car and continue on monday.

The system is now on line, and you can renew anywhere. If the age of your vehicle requires an inspection (over 6 years?), then you will have to find the local approved inspection station, prior to going to the local Land Transport Office.
They have a web site, if you can get it to open.

Why they cannot send renewal notices, I do not know. Also, the sticker is not very user friendly if you cannot read Thai. The bad part about it is, you have no 3rd party insurance once the registration expires.
In Oz they have a different colour sticker for each year, with the expiring month number in 2 inch high letters. This, of course, is for the Police`s benefit, as they can read it while you drive by. The MIB here are missing out on some tea money, if they only knew about it.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Agree with Nereus, think you can renew anywhere now. Bought my pickup in Khon Kaen and renewed(everything) in Korat, not sure if there's any regional variation in other places, but I don't think so, new rules might be going on.
Pitty they don't alter the 6100 Baht tax for a 4-door compared to the 700(or so) Baht for a 2-door, never made any sense to me that.

You're probably right there Steve. I was under the impression that the commercial trucks/pickups had green writing on a white background and private vehicles had black writing on a white background, so naively, I thought that shouldn't be an issue. Hell of a difference in price though.
Maybe the 4-doors are just for people that will never use them as a 'pickup'.
I suppose that is why the pickup companies are doing those 'smart' pickups with the sneaky extra door, that isn't a proper door but gives the extra seating, to beat the tax issue, but get away with almost being a 4-door.

I can confirm that it is possible to re-new in another province. I did it last month in Krabi with Chiang Rai license plates on the car. No problem. The compulsory technical examination took three minutes. They only checked if all the lights worked. Good luck.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
