Missing Post
Having big problem at present in that mail sent to me from Thailand and abroad is going missing - these are official leters, bills etc. Letters I know have been posted - as I posted them myself to check don't arrive. I believe our lazy postman is throwing away to save having to get off his fat arse to deliver.
Any advice (helpful ones only) on how to proceed / approach / make complaint ?

Re: Missing Post
They have a web site, (thai and english) with contact details. There used to be a very good lady in the complaints dept., but her name escapes me at the moment. You are probably right about your local postman, so I would try and lodge a complaint with the advertised contact, rather than your local office.niggle wrote:Having big problem at present in that mail sent to me from Thailand and abroad is going missing - these are official leters, bills etc. Letters I know have been posted - as I posted them myself to check don't arrive. May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
we have had the same problem for a while now, going into the post office and complaining made no difference.
Last week we signed up for a post office box and hopefully things will now improve as no need for a postman - ours never came out if it was raining and more recently seems to have become adverse to the sun!!
It is very easy to get a PO Box, just go to enquiries in the main post office - they will of course want a photocopy of your passport and house book if you have one.
Very inexpensive but cannot give you the exact price as I am out of the country at the moment but if you are interested I can let you know when I get back tomorrow evening. However it was under 500 baht for deposit and a year's rental!

I've had a PO Box for 9 odd years now. They're 160 Baht a year and a deposit on the key (that could have been 300 Baht or so back then).
As moja says, all that's needed to start is a copy of the details page of your passport and the money.
However, I have heard from a number of expats that they can be difficult to get because of supply and demand. Maybe, like me, moja, you got lucky.
IMO, it's certainly a safer way to receive international mail.

We had this problem when living in Samorphong and made numerous visits to the Post Office to try and get something done; we thought we cracked the problem when it was discovered that our address was almost identical to another one in the vicinity, as we received some mail for the other person at one point, but on visiting the address there was no one answering, so either no one was there to realise they had been receiving our mail or they weren't very public spirited..Or our postman was a lazy so and so, which is a possibility as he was changed around the same time and we started getting mail again! On the PO Box issue, we enquired at the time (about 18 months ago) and were told there were none available, although you can get them at Geuntung Supermarket as well I believe
We had a problem sending letters and parcels to our daughter - it was rare for anything to get through. We overcame the problem by paying a little extracand started using the 'Signed For' service - 100% success for many years.
About 2 months ago Mrs BB decided to send a few random gifts that cost £68. Normal post cost £48, and the Signed For service was £72. She opted for the normal service. Result being the parcel did not reach its destination.
In my mind there is only one way to send post to Thailand.

Yes would definitely get a PO box if you can Niggle. Even then something went missing once - my passport posted from Bangkok to HH registered! I went upstairs in the PO to investigate further, and there it was, sitting un-sorted in a pigeon hole.
Guy in charge of pigeon holes said 'no number on envelope' - then checked his 'received' book. It hadn't been entered in the book, therefore not given a number in the first place, therefore would probably have sat in that damn pigeon hole forever!

Do you remember the big bunch of keys I had sent to your PO Box from Nong Khai. They refused to admit they had it which caused a panic. I think Billy got it in the end and found it was not registered because there was a 25 Baht charge still applicable (COD). I seem to remember getting them back about one hour before going out and spending about 3,000 baht on new locks.margaretcarnes wrote:...........therefore would probably have sat in that damn pigeon hole forever!
Baa-baa, your extraordinary run of good luck will run out soon.
I have been told that they now have Xray and metal detection as standard (counter terrorism). This would make it a lot easier to determine that the package had no value. Gold, cash and travel documents would be detected.

Yes I'd forgotten about the keys Guess. Nightmare. They were actually sitting in the downstairs post room I think. Fun!

only about 10% of mail gets to my house, even if its in a brown envelope,
but 100% of the bills arrive on time.
strange!!!
and anything with an incomplete address always gets here.

I wrote to the email add given in an earlier reply, got an answer the next day saying that someone would be in contact to discuss. Imagine my surprise when today, not one but FIVE officials turned up at my house to find out what the problem was !! Not sure if we will start getting post again now but at least I know that they have taken note of my complaint.
