I believe they still have their own parliaments so I suppose they can count as separate countries
The term the bank manager in Jersey used to me was "Independent balliwicks" from the Middle Ages. AFAIK they are independent of each other, governing themselves separately.
Anybody been to the Duchy of Grand Fenwick?

The places I would like to visit are

Borneo to see the orang-utans – this is planned for next February
Galapagos Islands, although I have been to Ecuador I was not able to go to the Islands
Nepal
Bhutan
Argentina

There is plenty of time for you all to catch up with my 72 countries; I only seem to manage about one new one a year these days. No, Randy I do not own an airline and the vast majority of my travelling has been by sea.

My other half has been to a lot more places than I have and has threatened to do a count up so my lead could be short lived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought Oragutans came from Indonesia?
There are protected colonies in Malaysia and Indonesia - I visited the latter in Sumatra (I think there are two separate ones there) in a place called Bukit Lawang - I would highly recommend going there and generally to Sumatra, as long as you can put up with the call to prayer every 4 hours, as in the towns and cities all the accommodation tends to be right next to the mosque!

Lake Toba in the centre of Sumatra is a wonderful place to chill out, but another of my highlights will sadly not be the same now - Banda Aceh in the far north, as it was wiped out in the tsunami, although amazingly the little island I spent most of my time on, Pulau Weh was apparently spared. Indonesia is not everybody's cup of tea because of the hair raising driving (knocks Thailand into a cocked hat!) and the 'in your face' way they can be with foreigners and trying to sell you something, but Aceh was nothing like that. They were friendly but a little wary as they didn't get many tourists, plus of course that is a very strong Muslim area.

I was lucky that I met a lovely girl at the tourist office there who was eager to take me round - fortunately she moved away from the area before the tsunami and became an air hostess, but I lost contact with her around the time of it and fear that she and her family may have perished because it was likely that she would have been visiting them at that time of year (Ramadan).

Anyway I am sure a visit to Sumatra would be worthwhile for all the well travelled peeps on here.

I visited an orangutan sanctuary in Malaysian Borneo, Bangar Seri Begawan, this was part of a hotel complex, but there is a larger one which was too far to visit during my time there

quote redzonerocker    gonna try to overtake moja

Hope you have as much fun as I have had visiting most of the places I have been too - some I would not wish on anyone but there is always something to be learned wherever you travel; even if it is to know never to go back again!!!!!As I said before I am only adding about one country a year at the moment so it should be easy to catch up.

I am hoping my new country next year will be South Korea, other half is there at the moment.
