Time for a new truck

Just about 5 years now and age is showing on the 2004 Toyota Tiger 4WD. I need to do something soon to get a reasonable amount for it.

I'm once again leaning toward Toyota, Vigo 4 door, 4WD.

I'm studying the competition: Nissan Navara, Izusu, Chevy, Ford, none of which seem to come up to the spec of the Vigo.

Has anyone done any recent detailed research or test drive comparisons with the above group?

Interested in any recommendations or advice. Thanks. Pete

Ye prscct I did last dec,I brought the chevy aka.izusu same as Chevy just diffrent styling the ford came with leather seats,but i found space in rear to be a bit small.
i wanted a four door and something diffrent to what was around at the time.
The Toyota did have more options but then more expensive + a 6wk wait for delivery
The other reason i went for the Chev was that a specialist company in uk do performance parts at a reasonable price
I read a crash test report on the Navara which did not come out to good.

Stick with Toyota.
i bought a 4 door Vigo 2 years ago after looking at all the other models you mentioned. The only one that came close in my view was the Ford.

I have nothing but positve things to say about the Vigo. Best value for money, and assured quality.

Buying a vehicle is always a personal preference. I found that with pickups and their derivitives e.g Vigo / Fortuner - Ranger / Everest etc etc, the fact that you have a PICKUP base, means generally a harder ride - despite suspension tweaks.

I have a Chevy Colorado - bought as a three year old from a good pal, and at a snip with only 38000 on the clock.

What I HAVE found is that the Chevy has a much softer ride than the others - maybe because it is U.S. Spec'd.

The 3.0ltr turbo diesel has plenty of grunt for towing the boat and the 4WD helps getting in & out of the dams.

As steve/m says - the Chevy is aka Isuzu with a few styling changes (Both being GM makes) - BUT - the Cevy has a softer ride.

Only way to find out is to try them - good luck

BTW I have nothing against the Toyotas either - great value, utterly reliable but hard ar5ed!!!!!!!

Thanks Everyone. Yes, I've have a Toyota Tiger p/u 2004 until present and also 1995-99. I think my butt is now accustomed to the ride...LOL.

My better half is now lobbying for a Fortuner rather than a p/u. The house here is well finished, landscaped, furnished and stocked, so the need for a bed to haul big items will be rare as compared to the last 2 years. We'll see. Thanks again. Pete

Hi Pete,

You might want to have a look at those Mitsu Tritons aswell if you're thinking of a pickup, good reviews all round(gas consumption etc). Won the pick of the year last two times I think(not sure about 2008).

I bought one and have been more than happy with it. Had a good look at most of them and came to the conclusion that it's a Toyota or Mitsu. Though Toyota probably holds it's price better than the Mitsu.

judging by the standards of driving and especially parking I saw this weekend Id buy an Issan weathered beaten up old Hilux, fit it with bullbars and big wheels, and drive with no fear of getting bumped and scratched.

Dont forget.....Clarkson tried three times to destroy one for Top Gear, including dropping it in the sea and blowing it up from the top of a block of flats being demolished.....and the bugger still refused to die.

If you are really desparate, I have a 15 yr old Hilux fitted with a 2.0ltr petrol engine, column shift, bench seat - I bought it in Jan 2000 for peanuts, and it's still going strong - a bit tatty but used for all the 'dirty' jobs.

Maybe we can do a deal

Great pic Terry. I think there's enough room in the bed for a small sofa and rocking chair for Ma and Pa, and bloodhound Blue when we go to the big city to shop.

Mine, 4 door, not the all singing all dancing one(one/two step/s down), 2WD, manual, electric windows, mirrors, the usual stuff without getting too porno etc, sure you know what I mean. Don't need much more that that spec now.

610, 000(cash), credit over a couple of years about 670,000(at the time) Baht which was 2 and a half years ago, not sure what the deal is now(probably cheaper) but that's what they told me when I bought mine but that was in Korat, not sure about other places but I don't think it will vary too much, banket deals country-wide I think.

Quoted info is for brand spanking new from the Mitsu dealer a couple of years ago. You might be able to do better now, not sure.

Good Pickups, no complaints, quite happy.
