Buying books from amazon

Post by perfectswing »

Living in Thailand, has anyone bought books from amazon, what was your experience in regard to delivery time, additional costs (e.g. import taxes, etc.) ?

Did a few last year - DVDs - they always were held at the post office, had to pay duty (about 50% of the value if i remember correctly). For books you should i would think that you could order here in Hua Hin.

Good luck,

Books can be ordered from both Bookazine and Megabooks in town, the service at both has always been excellent providing the books are available in Thailand.

In fact, I'd like 2 things :

- the possibility to get French books as my wife read a lot

and

- "easy to read" English books so that she can improve her English :)

I would say you could perhaps order them from bookazine (opposite the sofitel) they have always seemed like a good booky type shop to me.
They are a bit like W.H Spliff but without the volume...

Bookazine isn't opposite the Sofitel now - its above the McSplodge in the new complex opposite, oh Gawd, the supermarkety thingy (v.good) next to Hot Property just down from Burger King and opposite PP Villas (phew)!

What's the name of the place that has replaced it - Asian Books?

Bookazine moved into where Asia Books used to be and what was Bookazine has become Magabooks.

Around the same time Bookazine opened several smaller outlets around the town, within other shops.

Another good book shop where I know they sell a number of French language books is Kinokuniya in the Paragon Centre Bangkok.

They have an on-line ordering serive and when in stock the books arrive within 48 hours.
