I'd read that that was going to happen, but didn't realise it would come into force so soon.
As the article states, it's an attempt to control arranged marriages between young people and their coming over to the Uk. I think it's particularly designed for the sub-continent.
I don't think the language issue applies to EEC member countries.

Not much detail in that short article, but reading between the lines seems obvious it leans towards the customs/habits in the countries and of the people the UK has most immigration from.

For sure it may dent the plans of some Thai bride and her farang husband but I wouldn't think many. Collateral damage. Pete

Just read that link with some intrest, that you will have to do English language tests in the future.
After being resident in the U.K as a non E.U resident for more than two years, in order to get indefinate leave to remain visa you have too take the Life in the U.K test and thats not easy.

Lomu is it true they are going too shorten the time you can get a tourist visa for your girlfriend, i have a mate that asked me that the other day as far as i know it's still 6 months.

I remember that being discussed as well, probably at the same time as the other above regulations. If I remember correctly, the proposal was to cut Tourist/Visit visas back to 3 months, but there dosn't seem to be mention of that now, so I assume it's still 6 months for the time being.
