That was quite a clever move from the UK, as now they don’t have to go through all the legalities that they would have if the Thaksins had applied for political asylum whilst they were in the country.
It is his own fault because they wouldn’t have done that if he had still owned Manchester City!

I can't find this story anywhere else - I would have thought it would have been big news?

Well, a copy of that email has been reproduced everywhere and the Bangkok Post is now reporting on it. I guess the UK news are seeking verification first - wisely I would have thought?

I'm a cynic and find it hard to believe a simple email such as this carries any validity. Surely, this should at least carry the orders that have been made instructing this? Not just a cheery email - the top of which has been cut - who is it addressed to? Basically saying, 'Hi guy's, Andy here, don't let these folks travel.

Surely it must be in the form of a legal document issued by the FCO/Home Office, or other such authority, giving details of the legal basis for such a decision and the date and time it was made - what if they were in the air already?

If true, I suspect Andy (who is real) could be in for a bollocking.

But then having worked with these people, nothing would surprise me.

I note their passport numbers start with the letter "D". I assume that means diplomatic? If so, I thought Thailand had revoked the status ages ago. It would appear not.
Also wonder what visas they had - diplomatic probably if the passports were?
Oh well, poor old Toxin and his lovely wife won't be enjoying their multi-million pound properties in and around London any more. What a shame. The kids, however, will still be living it up. There must be court cases pending for them as well, especially over the Tensamak/Shin Corp deal. They were well involved in that with the shares. However, the lovlies may still have the chance to finish off their education in the UK before they're thrown out as well.
What a shame. For once I can applaud UK Immigration's decision.
Now do I (no) or any other member have some decent dosh hanging around as they may be able to buy up some prime real estate that could be going for a song quite soon. If no-one can do it alone, maybe we can all group together and buy the places and hold regular HHAD parties at them
Good point, Caller. This might be premature.

I've always thought that Andy Gray was full of it.

It's getting boring already. All I have heard so far this morning on rebel TV is Bltish Airways and Blitish Immiglation.

I think it's national gloat day.

Astute move by the British government. Anybody any thoughts of possible implications for Brit expats over here?

UK cancels Thaksin visa

Post by margaretcarnes »

Good point Richard. I'd just done a reply but it went AWOL. but said that at least we should be free now of what I felt could become quite threatening comments from some Thais. EG asking why 'we' allowed him to stay in our country.

Fact is to the majority of Brits it means diddly squat. To a lot of Thais the move is welcome. Although they would probably have preferred the UK to put Thaksin on a plane home. Personally I think it was a good diplomatic move on the part of the UK.

Whether the majority of Thais will understand that is another matter. I guess if I don't get my laundry back it'll be a good indicator!

I'm still not convinced it's true. I can't find any real coverage apart from this story in the beeb and that just makes reference to the email. I find it odd that there hasn't been an official announcement?

Caller

Seems to be a blanket Obama coverage across the board. Thaksin is small beer in comparison

Bangkok Post, the Nation and Al Jazeera have all reported but I suspect from the same source

Hoax????

Well its been reported that the Thai Foriegn Ministry have now confirmed it with the British authorities - althpough a UKFCO spokesperson quoted by the NYT has stated thay can't comment on individual cases! So a seeming contradiction there?

But no-one's denying it.
