Nice to see you getting sceptical about hoax emails at last, richard!

But I don't think this one is, as it all makes far too much sense.

The UK Border Agency (or whatever it's called these days) has revoked their visas, and that will undoubtedly be based on a change of circumstances since they were issued. There is no way Thaksin could have suspected this before he left, or he would have stayed put and probably applied for asylum. The UK govt wil be breathing a huge sigh of relief that the Toxins have made it all so easy for them.

As for the email, I'm not surprised it's relatively informal. Andy G is probably emailing all airlines about similar things on a daily basis. And it isn't a legal requirement, just a courtesy ("don't carry these people, or you'll wind up getting charged for their return journey").

A diplomatic passport is issued by and at the discretion of the government. Any diplomatic status T had would have lapsed long since, so whatever the passport number, his status would be that of any other (very rich) Thai national.

It does seem strange that there is nothing more than the one e-mail, but I would have thought that someone on the British side would have issued a denial by now if it was a hoax.

Im reading now its been confirmed by UK and Thai authorities as true, so it looks like its real. They can do this without any big official notice as it is an administrative, not legal, procedure. Seems Mr T forgot that when he decided to go globetrotting.

As to the lack of an explanation thats just standard Home Office/UKBA practice in light of human rights legislation and internal civil service policy....been that way for years.

As to why....well where do you start? The UK have been attracting flak for hosting him, and the PAD & UDD demos outside the embassy have probably made them very itchy. The demos are a credible and ongoing risk to embassy/consulate staff and security. Should, as is expected, the situation deteriorate, that threat becomes significant. The BKK embassy is a particularly key one as it acts as the hub for SE Asia. Potential threats to its integrity are therefore a lot more serious.

Cure: remove Thaksin quietly....ie let him sell Man C so he isnt a full business owner any more, wait till he leaves and dont let him return.

The reason the notice stipulates the D passport visas is they are the passports the Ts have been using, so those are the visas that are revoked. That said, the revocation should act against the Ts whatever passports they use.

Thats my guess....

What will be interesting now of course is whether UDD motocy's start lobbing pipe bombs and grenades at the embassy......

Paraguay has always welcomed less than savoury types 8) ... providing they dig deep.
Basically the toxins are now homeless.... and not a good time to try selling their fancy pad in Surrey. I do hope the school is providing hot lunches for the little ones. Of course that may end once they go to high school.
I'm guessing this decision came from behind closed doors very high up the UK food chain. Cubicle inmates don't get to make those decisions.

He will probably be heading for China as hes building a Bht300M house there... and I bet Thailand and China dont have extradition agreements set up.....smart money is on a non extradition place....

which gives his cronies enough time to get 10,000 signatures on an amnesty petition....which means it gets an instant debate in parliament....which means they pass an amnesty law for him.....

then again....his missus is sill a crim....so he just gets to come back on holidays till they can swivel an amnesty for her too......

and so on and so on

I remember reading somewhere a couple of weeks ago that he'd been offered a job running a countries economy, but I forget which country it was.
It was nowhere nice, perhaps somewhere like the Sudan or Mauritania.

UK cancels Thaksin visa

Post by margaretcarnes »

I'm surprised about some of the doubt over this story, as Beeb world ran it all day yesterday.
Apparently the T's have Bahamian passports as well, which would seem as good a place as any to live given their dosh, but were reported as being in HongKong.
Even Bahamian passports won't get them back into the UK though as they would still be denied visas.
I tend to go with JohnnyK here - the UKs decision may have been made very very high up the food chain and it wouldn't surprise me if Liz 'n Phil had a call from LOS in an effort to solve the problem.
What remains to be seen is how the 2 parties involved in LOS react to what might be seen as 'pussyfooting' by the British government. While we may see it as diplomatic and and expedient way to solve the problem, some Thais I'm sure would have preferred the T's put on a flight straight home.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
