Previous employer not paying wages owed

Post by bluezephyr »

My Lady friend had a short stint in a bar working as a cashier, 5000 baht+ tips per month, She worked for 11 days, She wanted the cashier postition as she only wanted a job and not do what the other bar ladies do.

She worked 11 days, The boss accused her of stealing and was overworking her as a punishment for not bringing the bar fines in to pay her wages (it was agreed she didnt want to go with customers when she took the job).
2 weeks on and the boss isnt stumping up the money owed, Its not huge amounts of money but its still money owed and I want her to have the wages she worked for. If i were in a better position i would help her out, She knows things are tight for me right now and hasnt asked for a satang.(ive had an expensive tastes fiance before and its nice to know not all try and rip you off!)

What can be done about this? She doesnt trust the police due to a small matter in September that was never followed up.
There must be a way of dealing with these situations??, I dont think its fair to forget and move on.

HI BZ,

How well do you know the friend?

Is the owner Thai or foreigner?

I read about things like this in one of the local newspapers, not so sure about him but maybe Khun Tuck can help you out with legal advice???

Just some advice, be careful. 5000bt is not worth ANY trouble in Thailand.

BZ, In the western world there are all sorts of boards and tribunals that staff can take an employment gripe to in this situation, in Thailand I would not think that they exist.

One thing to bear in mind is if your GF was paying tax or if she was being paid cash in hand.
If she causes problems, perhaps the bar owner as retribution for what action your GF takes, could annonoymosly report her to the tax people for not paying tax.

I know that there is a principle involved here but I think for an amount of 1800baht it is not worth the problems that it may bring to her.

Tell her to walk and find another job.

Congrats on new position.
I suggest that you give her the money (owing), and then forget about it.
