I just went down to the big Honda dealer (heading out of town on the right hand side, before the palace shop) with my passport and 45,000 in cash. Told them I wanted the bike in my name or I was taking my money elsewhere. Within 30 mins I was riding my new bike home (and yes it is in my name) that was nearly 4 years ago. No forms or coloured books needed at all. Money talks... :D

Hi Randie

I like your stragegy and yes money talks! More so in the current finacial climate!

I take it you get a Blue Registration Book for the bike? Where do you register it or does the dealer do that?

Thanks

The dealer does absolutly everything. After about 3 weeks or so you have to go back for your tax and registration plate.
Honda are regarded as the bike to have, hence may be a tad more expensive than some of the others...

Am I right in thinking that farangs can only NOT have a bike or car in their name if they want to finance it ? Unless they apply for finance via WP and salary etc etc.

In other words if all cash upfront then cango in farangs name. Anyone ?

Didn't have any problem when renting and on a tourist visa 5 years ago. In cash of course.

Couple of months ago I was at the HONDA car dealer.

Asking about finance. They required my Yellow or Blue Book, Passport, Bank Dets etc. The car would have remained in the Finace Co name until I completed the contract.

If I paid cash then it would have gone into my name and no books were needed just the money!!!

Asking about finance
lippy, was it just an inquiry or did you go through with it ? As everytime I've been involved in vehicle finance for ourselves of friends, they want to see Thailand salary slips/letters from employers or Thailand company accounts, even for Thais.

It was just an inquiry and I didnt go thru with anything!

That said when My Ex got her car on finace she produced Bank and work statements Blue Book etc to mention a few plus required a guarantor.

A large deposit and then the car went into the Finace Co name.

When she finished paying for it the Finace Co put it into her name!

Motorscooter purchase

Post by charlesh »

Purchased a Honda Airblade from Honda in Pranburi 5 weeks ago. Not in my name but that of the Mrs. Apparently the Insurance is cheaper. My sojourns to the various dealers in HH and Pranburi did not reap any expected good eals despite having cash and a Thai speaker with me!
U may have to wait for 6 weeks for the proper plates and Reg cert. The Mrs had to bring all the doc's mentioned except passport , had to produce her ID card instead.

Bought a second hand Honda Jazz in cash 2 months ago. Didn't require any work permit or anything. Just passport, letter of residence from immigration and $$.. We brought the car to Chaam with the seller to have the engine's authenticity checked at the authority, and were able to drive the car home after that!
We were told that in order to purchase insurance and claim (if anything happens to the car), you definitely need to get your international license converted to the native one. Otherwise the insurance will not take effect.

When I bought mine 2 years ago I needed a residency letter from immigration. same when I re-requested it. getting it in my name was no problem.

I've got a nuevo no problems good bike.

also rented Suzuki Hayate. I liked it as well.

If you really didn't want to know the answer, why the hell did you ask me the question!!!
