When I was a kid back in England, we used to be able to buy model aircraft construction kits made by a company called Kiel Kraft. This involved cutting the component parts of the airfame from balsa wood, gluing them together on a board and applying a ‘skin’ of tissue paper.
Some of these were gliders, some were powered by small ‘jetex’ engines or even rubber bands.
It was fun, educational and cheap as a hobby.
I have looked everywhere I can in Thailand and have not found anywhere that sells these hobbycrafts.
My two lads are growing up and are missing a lot of fun as a result
Anyone know here I can get these items?
Aircraft Modelling
I, too used to have these when I was a kid--never did get one to fly though!
I think that class of "model" has been replaced with pre-cut metal and plastic kits, or worse, already made up models.
There is a small but dedicated following of genuine "model" aircraft enthusiasts in Bangkok, and several shops that cater for them. They may have some more "basic" types, I have not really looked recently.
Except to say that just last week I stumbled across a shop whilst looking for something else. The door was closed but I didn't realise and pushed on it. They came and opened the door, a couple of really nice fellows, and invited me inside. What had attracted me was a couple of large model helicopters on display, as I used to fly the real thing when I was younger.
After finding out this they took me out the back of the shop where they were working on a model of an Apache Military Helicopter, complete with JET engine! The thing was nearly big enough to take my 3 year old granddaughter for a ride! They said that the engine and transmission came from Germany, and when running it sounds just like a real engine. They have a place out near Don Muang Airport that they use to fly their models. I thought that the place may have been where the Aircraft Museum is, but they said not.
They stock a big range of model parts, but probably nothing basic similar to what you are asking.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Terry, I found this place on the internet, it may be worth a look as there is a forum and also a good links page.
