They still occupy 2nd and 3rd positions, I think you should me more concerned about your own club because they seem to be falling apart.

Is that 5 you've lost now?

I can guarantee neither Liverpool or United will get a 3-0 hiding at Eastlands.

that's a pretty safe (ish) bet considering liverpool have already played there & won 3-2  :D

we do 'seem' to be falling apart abit, but i'm sure when adebayor, toure, rosicky, eduardo, sagna, walcot, eboue, fabregas are all back, fit & playing, we'll be a slightly different proposition.
like i said, we can't afford to spend big bucks on players & wages, especially after building a new stadium. :(
i do expect to see a few new signings in january, even though it will be to late for this season's title race :(
there's still plenty to play for though :D

Matt Upson to Arsenal as captain' seeing as their ain't many English defenders available? In fact it will probably become 'Green and Upson to Gunners in double swoop on Hammers' given the way the press have a habit of linking our best players away every transfer window
Although true at the moment but just remember where he came from.

Not related to the last few posts but from the site where BaaBaa´s link takes us:
Wenger is also in Real Madrid’s thoughts as the La Liga champions contemplate sacking manager Bernd Schuster who has come under increasing pressure at the Emirates.
I wonder what kind of pressure do they put on Schuster at the Emirates?

I thought that Arsenal were one of the richest of all - they haven't the debts brought by the new owners of United or the Scousers and the interest free loans from Abramovich to pay off?

Wenger has said he has the funds.....

They have been hit recently by the crunch - with sales of properties at the old highbury ground and flats around the new stadium suffering.
Talk is cheap

I think they have a large debt/long term loan for the new stadium and hope to off-set that with development of old highbury land. That been affected by property crash but thats a temporary thing (4-5 years).
They could have a bit of a revenue problem if they drop out of top 5/6 as they don't have the fans to get 60k every week, many are fairweather.
So maybe worse case IF above applies then transfer fund is lower to ensure new ground debt is met etc.

They'll still be a competitive weallthy club though imo, but not as they are now, can see them dropping off of main challengers and there being a main 3 in next few years.

SJ
To finance the project, Ashburton Properties, a subsidiary of Arsenal Holdings plc was formed and obtained a £260m senior loan facility from a stadium facilities banking group. The banking group comprises: the Royal Bank of Scotland plc, Espirito Santo Investment, The Bank of Ireland, Allied Irish Banks plc, CIT Group Structured Finance (UK) Limited and HSH Nordbank AG. Interest on the senior debt was set at a commercial fixed rate over a 14-year term.

 what? with over 30,000 on the season ticket waiting list
when was the last time highbury or the emirates was not a sell out?????
even the carling cup reserve side sold out in a midweek game against wigan a few weeks back :?
i'm sure you would love to see us drop out of the top 5/6 sj, but i think that may just be wishful thinking :D
once we get our full squad back up & running, add a couple of top quality players in the transfer window, we'll be back in business again 8)

Yes but that's now, I'm talking about a future situation.

It wasn't meant as a Spurs Arsenal thing honest.
I was saying if you dropped out of being serious league contenders, big if, then you would struggle to sell out in the non-big games, history shows this with Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, they have a lot of fairweathers.
You have massive turnover now largely based on the 60k sell out's at Emirates, but the operating profit is only 36M, as you have 320M of debts to service, a lot of which is loans to develop Highbury site 220M odd loans to pay off for Ashburton Grove. Wages/management costs are 100M per year.

You're crowd base before you started winning leagues and a permanent top challenging team was 23-28,000 'ish. Obviously this has now grown but can't see filling 60k stadium if not seriously challenging any longer.
The thing to me isn't about 'when we get our full first team back', it's that there isn't a second squad to do the business which you need to win the league, like Man U and Chelsea have. Arsenal need some big plyers in key positions.
I was only putting it up as a possibility, if I had to bet on it I'd say it won't happen.

But Arsenal's finances are in large part based on possible risk areas like filling the ground (team performance) and development of Highbury (property market), where many buyers have forfeited their deposits and pulled out of the purchases.
Arsenal have alsways had a lower turnover than their statue deserved, that's why they don't often pay silly transfer fees but have relied on shrewd buys by Wenger which all worked out. They can't pay the biggest salaries around. Now the need those new big players, can they be got ?

This from a Arsenal website, not an anti-one:
This is where the size of the squad, and the composition of the squad, becomes critical. Because there is no way that Arsene can allow his wage costs to creep up from £80m to £90m to £100m. That cannot happen. It's impossible. The money isn't there to pay it, even though there is a small amount of commercial money coming in.

When you look at it, the only variable cost is your squad. And the cost of the squad has been trimmed and trimmed again. That's why Arsene cannot put Adebayor's wages up from £35,000 a week to £70,000 a week. He can't double Ade's wages, let alone treble his wages, even if he wanted to. And he doesn't want to.
IF Arsenal keep challenging and filling the ground then no problem, but if not challenging and Gallas, Adebayor and say Fabregas goes to Madrid then different story.

My `one trick pony` was slightly tongue in cheek but it did provoke the expected response from BaaBaa (ie. what about your team). Some folks are easily wound up.

I like the way we always stand up for our teams and try to look on he bright side, but where are all the Man U fans? Are there any on the forum, or are they keeping a low profile until they sneak the title at the death?

United fans are always the same, they dont like to talk about Football unless they're 10 points clear in the League or have just given somebody a 5-0 thrashing.

Hopefully City will have the local bragging rights next weekend too.
