Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade 2008

Post by buksida »

Location: Sofitel Central
Dates: December 12th - 13th
Information: http://www.tourismhuahin.com/vintage-cars-huahin.php
Photos: http://photos.huahinafterdark.com/main. ... temId=1271

This is well worth a look, a nice afternoon stroll around the Sofitel gardens with all the classics on display.

Press info:

"There will be many activities during the 2 day event, most of which will take place at the Sofitel Centara. 50 vintage cars will join the parade this year setting off on Friday 12th December 2008 at 8 am from the Sofitel Centara Grand, Bangkok. They will be heading off on a 225 kilometer journey to Sofitel Centara Hua Hin, with stops along the way at several local attractions. At around 5.30 pm the Vintage Car Parade will tour Hua Hin city. All participants will be dressed up in fancy costumes in order to make this year parade even more colorful than usual."

Shame the info in the press info above was not correct (& I'm not blaming Mr B!). As the cars were due to leave Bangkok at 8am and parade at 5.30pm I decided to drive into Hua Hin and visit the Sofitel late afternoon. No joy! 4 cars on display at the Sofitel entrance and a few parked up by the car park. Staff were very helpful & allowed me in to take some photos and they advised that the parade was Saturday pm not Friday per press info. Hope those who did get their had a good time.

Good to support local events but info is difficult enough but when they give out incorrect details then it just gets annoying. Ah well maybe next year..........

Jim, sorry the info was incorrect - I hope it didn't spoil your trip to Hua Hin.

The problem is that there is very little information, marketing and promotion for these events, the local rags get it wrong (as you have seen), and we have little else to go on.

Thanks Buksida. As I said in my post - not your fault!!

A not-quite-wasted 70km round trip but I could have arranged to go Saturday. I always wonder why promoters can't make (accurate) earlier announcements of events and thus get more people attending, making it worthwhile for sponsors, etc etc. as said by many BMs in earlier threads. Same goes for other parts of the country - announcements just days before an event so no chance of getting there.

So it's Saturday next year - no matter what the papers say!!
