Kia Sportage

I had a Kia Sportage for a couple of years here in Korea and must say it was a great vehicle. I sold it on account it was a standard and the wife would only drive an auto transmission. I think you would be very happy with it.

A step up would be the Sorento model but it should be much more pricy, alo very nice. I currently drive a Jeep Compass (2007 model) and am happy with it.

Other Korean vehicle comparable would be the Hyundai Tuscon. Hyundai are great quality automobiles. By the way Hyundai and Kia are the same company now.

I would say what ever you choose, make sure the safety/crash standards are good. Even some of the better names have pretty ordinary safety levels ie, Navara pick-up.

Pinky, I've had good luck with my Ranger (diesel) 4x4. Its 11 years old now, approaching 150,000km. It has a turbo charger which is very handy when you need a quick blast of power. It's 4 door, which makes it nice for extra passengers. It has it's odd ache and pain, but to be expected. for the milage. Honestly, I never use the 4x4, however I like the clearance the 4x4 provides. It's excellent for fuel efficiency. I have offroad tires, which will be replaced with smoother road tires when the time comes.

Much as I prefer a saloon car I go for pickups every time in Thailand .Even if you live in the town centre there are many places you may wish to go where the roads are not good especially in rainy season .I did consider the fortuner but could not justify the extra 500k for what is essentially a body kit IMO .Test drove the mu7 and found it ok .Settled on a vigo .Does eveything I need .
