Bill, yes straight up people talk about it, but Im only referring to a circle of mates, hardly a cross-section of the town. The talk isn't "im never going there again because of too many ads" etc.

What makes me laugh is there's tons of posts on here about tatty bars with dirty bogs, haven't been painted for years, playing tripe music (and I agree with them), but then when someone makes an effort, spends some money ie: Butt Rock, El Murphys, JW's refurb, YOBT people then find reason to slag that off, as a beers two-bob dearer than the pit next door.

Good luck to you all, I've seen first hand at one of the above mention working their nuts off to make a quality place only for people to have a row over a 5 Baht dearer beer.

Hua Hin is full of whinging Brits imo, and it's gonna get a lot worse over the coming few years of financial troubles.

Buffalo Bill/Lorraine,
Took friends to your place 2 weeks ago on my night off,had a great time as always, with Lee the ShamROCK my only complaint could be Dannyboys jokes. But I totally agree with S.J. and others,we work up to 16hrs a day,pay our taxes, vat, staff insurance, decent wages, work permits etc.We offer a service to the public that we keep striving to improve.Your drink prices like mine are in line with most beer bars but we pay our correct dues into the Thai tax system, most beer bar don't(I used to own one).We pay the same rates and dues as any 5 star hotel,we pay more for our stocks etc.But we will never please everyone,I tell my wife"if someone wants to argue about 5 bath let them go to the grotty bars or 7,we call fill the seats with decent people" which I find 99.9% of our customers are!
Thank you Bill,S.j.,Norse,Sandman,lindosfan1,nevets and all the other decent people out there who have given us positive feedback with out you people I'd be freezing my nuts at home.
To quote Bill,Give me constructive criticism all day long no problem but don’t hide, shouting from a far.

SJ/Murf/Buffalo, I have to fully agree with what you all have said about people who moan about 5/10baht difference in prices of beers.
Here in Perth my local has charged $9.00 for Stella, Guiness, Heinikin, Kilkenny and the likes for at least 18months now.

I have mates that moan and whinge that a couple of pubs in the area have happy hours or cheap beer of the month, but to go to them pubs they have to get a taxi there and back.

These pubs are only about 5-8kms from my home but would cost me $20.00 each way in a cab, but my mates are happy to do that because "The Beer is at Least Cheaper", and when I ask what about the $40.00 it is costing you in a cab they cannot answer to me why they do it, they cannot see my reasoning for not paying out $40.00 for taxis.

The other pubs in my area are nowhere near as good as my local and are all prone to fights etc. I would rather pay a bit extra for much superior facilities and a more comfortable and safer enviroment that slightly cheaper beer and a $40 round trip taxi ride.

I applaud all of the owners for wanting to try and up the ante with better facilities, and I can tell you, if I was a bar owner I would really not want to attract the type of people that do moan about these type of things, as dealing with those sort of petty complaints deflects from your time with dealing with the majority of your customers that are there to have a good time.

In the current climate where things are getting tough, I think that it will be the bars like O'Neills, El Murphy, JW, Buffalo Bill's, Monsoon and the likes that (given the chance) will survive as peoples expectations and overall experience on a night out is more important that a slightly cheaper beer. The ones that do not offer good facilities and amenities and a different experience, will have a hard time coping and surviving in the future.

Good luck to you all in trying to lift the standard of what is being offered in Hua Hin, it can only be for the better of everyone.

A few simple points in my humble.....

MURF serves the best steak dinner I have had in THAILAND, never mind Hua Hin. On my travels the only places better i have come across were in Spain and Texas....and thats because they served up half a cow.....rump steaks should be thick and juicy....just like MURF serves every time ive been there.

MURF also has the advantage of being host to the Stonehead Band....possibly the best cover band in Hua Hin....certainly worth a few extra beers post steak to listen and tap the foot along to......

Bill runs a top line joint. He has spent a lot of time and effort on the place, and it shows. I dont eat there but thats because i eat little farang food anyway, and when i do its steak.....and there MURF has the edge....but thats my personal taste. Ive sunk a few beers in Bills....and its a damn good bar.

Both of them run proper bar eateries that could easily be transposed on any UK village/town centre. They are both quality joints, and it shows. They are good examples I use to beat Mrs S around the head on how bars should be run....

Now....back to the OP

Lilly the answer is wherever you like.....here NY celebrations are good and fun, and dont have all the threat of getting floored by a group of pissed up yobs like back home....bars are different....find one you like....

even better take a walk, have a few beers, and spread the love around.

but whatever you do.... HAVE A GREAT ONE ...if you are here you will !

I drink Vodka with Tonic and charging Bht 140 for a Vodka seems very excessive. I thought those who charge Bht100/110 with a small portion of tonic bad enough
One can buy a good bottle of imported vodka for around Bht350 so why such a high profit margin compared to a bottle of Chang?
This is my only gripe!!
