while at our house over xmas we discovered our water pump is pumping continuously and the water is not getting in to the house or escaping in the garden, so the leak is somewhere under ground. Does anyone know of someone that could help? is ther such a thing as a specialist in thailand. Our insurance co. has said get it put right and we will pay , but how? Any suggestions?

The first thing you need to do is start where the pipe comes out of your pump and into the ground and remove the grass and dirt that's on top of the pipe. They're not deep, only a few inches. By doing this you may see where the water is leaking, at an elbow in the pipe, or some section that has been spliced poorly by the builders. You can do this yourself, or an easy job for a Thai who needs a few baht. Ask around your neighborhood or ask your security guard, should be easy to find someone to do the digging.

If no leak found, it's something else and time to find a plumber which you should have plenty of down there. Perhaps someone on here can give you specific contacts.

However, with all PVC pipe cracks/leaks I've ever seen, you still get some water into the house at lower pressure. Your break must be massive and if so, you should see very wet spots, even swampy, somewhere on your lawn along the route of the pipe. Check your water tank to assure there is even any water in there. It may be empty and your pump is running dry. Pete

This can develop into a complete nightmare. It could be just a leak on a PVC pipe connection, or more seriously, the PVC has sheared due to slight subsidence of the foundations. It may prove impossible to find, or if you are able to find which section of the plumbing it is in, you may be able to isolate that section, as it will probably be inaccessible. You would then have to have a new section of piping run on the surface in an unsightly manner.

The number below is the ONLY Thai than I have found over 20 years here, that has any idea about plumbing. You will need a Thai speaker as his English is very basic.

Do you mean that there is no leak in the house or no water getting to the house at all ? If no leak and no swampy garden check all your toilets are not slowly leaking .Other than that its digging time .If you do not have a crawl space under the house that is .Best of luck .

Following on from crazy88 it sounds like the pump is running 'dry' because if it was continuously pumping water this would have to be going somewhere. As pete says, is there water in your tank? Is it possible that the pipe from the tank to the pump is completely blocked? If the tank is empty or pipe blocked your pump is running dry. Sometimes even when the tank fills again the pump may still not start sucking the water up, and something I have had to do many times is to open the turnable plastic caps under the removable top casing of the pump (they are normally very tight and you need something like a screwdriver to be able to unscrew and rescrew them on) and when opening them you will hear air coming out, which will be what has been blocking water coming in. You should then pour some water into the opening until it fills up, replace the caps tightly and switch on the pump. Within about a minute or so you should hear water swooshing into the pump and through the attached pipes. I wouldn't mind betting that this is your problem as it is very common.

If you have an above ground water tank and the pump has lost its prime because the tank has emptied at some stage then check the filter on the inlet side is clear of debris .

id take a look at it as WL suggests mate.....airlocks bugger up pumps. I had the same problem with a bilge pump on a speedboat one time....tho in this case it sounds like theres no water getting to the pump.

check the pipe before it gets to the pump. water in it? if so then its a pump problem....the motor could have come off the mechanism so its actually not pumping water just spinning round.

personally id get a plumber in.....

we isolated the leak, it is somewhere coming from the pipe under the ground in to the house, we know the exact section, however it is under the back porch/house.. We thouught the easy way would be to reroute all the water ,but the problem is then finding all the in pipes to the house..we found all but one , the water in to the utility room
