You had a bad day

Post by Jim »

A simple ex-pat aimed question, if I may.

When you have a really shit day in Thailand, do you ever wish you were back home?

I know for sure that when I have one (today, for example) I sure wish I was back in Hua Hin.

Thanks

Jim

I sometimes miss friends, family, and some of the amenities back home and I always miss the California weather, but I'm in Thailand for life and intend to make the best of it (even if I am a grumpy old man sometimes)!

I am always optimistic when a new President takes office, but alas, it usually only takes two or three months for them to drown that optimism by pissing all over the rest of us...

Home?

Post by Chas »

Like a couple of others, I don't have a "back home" to think about.

Hua Hin, Thailand is it.

This is my only home . . .for better or worse.

Makes me think though.

If I HAD to leave here, I really don't know where I would go. My brother and sisters are all over the US, but NOT in attractive places ( Michigan? New Jersey?) and where I used to live (wintery Vermont) holds no attraction for me at all. . three feet of snow every couple weeks and a two month mud season lost its charm long ago. Maybe Hawaii? Maybe Malaysia? Maybe Vietnam?

But for now. . .this is it and I like it here. When I have a shit day, I just deal with it. .usually by just cursing Thai stupidity and wishing that they could get whatever it is right !! But of course, I would do that even back in Vermont. . .Lord knows there is enough stupidity to curse wherever you go.

But back in rural VT there was nothing nearly as nice as Hua Hin. . I was hours away from a mall of any size, Tesco and Villa have everything I ever found in the US and more, Home Pro is as good as similar stores back there. Good restaurants? I would have had to drive four to five hours to Boston to find the variety and quality I can find here. Etc Etc. Bottom line. . . I was destined to live in a warm climate with friendly people.

Home is where the heart is after all!

nah.... as others have said THIS is home....certainly where my heart is

go home, togs off, shower, sarong on, cue up daft film, light up, , chuckle my worries away.....been working for me for the best part of 20 years ;-)

Like Mr P so correctly advocates, a good chuckle every day keeps you young and healthy.

if that doesnt work I usually water my orchids and watch the little skink lizards run about the garden while the sun sets....a good sunset always cheers me up

And if that doesnt work, try thinking...."Hey, at least Im not (insert name)"
