What a stupid thing to do!
I'm surprised they didn't shoot her there and then.

'Mai ow krup' would suffice and they would move on.

Yes, 'mai ow krup' with a bit of a smile and they'll leave you alone, anywhere here, even Pattaya. A display of temper or 'jai laun' makes you look low and rude regardless of the situation or their actions, then you're fair game for abuse. Pete
A case in point, and I was the problem. :( I've had to drive back and forth Rayong/Bangkok about every three days for the past several weeks. To get to my hotel I get off the expressway at the 'Port' exit at Klong Tuey. At the bottom of the exit there is a traffic light, and it can be very long before it turns green. On Friday mid-day I was there and several kids and their Mother (I guess) were walking the exit lane with rags in their hands to clean windshields. I was in a bad mood...tired...wanted none of it, opened the window and barked in Thai at the Mother to STOP! She almost cried and at the same time kicked my front right wheel and whimpered "5 baht...". What a jerk I was for not understanding her plight immediately, she was dressed in rags just about.

So, the 'temper' gets the best of all of us farangs here from time to time. Pete

Whats the deal with the deaf sellers who come around, Is this a proper organisation? Ive bought nice flower soaps from them in the past but they were trying to sell some old tat in September, And right when your eating they come around which could be quite annoying.

One time I was sat in a bar trying to mime to the deaf young lady that I wasn’t really interested when my friend, thinking I was having my usual language problems, proceeded to explain in his fluent Thai that we didn’t want to buy anything.
He couldn’t understand why I was turning purple trying not to laugh and even the girl saw the funny side of it.

Maybe the foriegn tourists need to be better trained! I think they should all be sent to a special school before being allowed to set foot abroad. One that ensures they are fully up to spec of each and every Countries customs they are expecting to visit and if they fail, they're not allowed to go.

After all, locals going around threatening to shoot tourists or even doing it, won't do the tourist trade much good, will it?

Of course, a Country and town pretty much dependent on said tourists can't actually be expected to educate, even to a very basic level, the most annoying of sellers of crap, into the very basic do's and don'ts when dealing with the average farang tourist, could they?

Well, they could actually.

Just a thought.

I think anybody should have a little read about whats expected in your holiday destination though Caller.

Otherwise you may come across as German.

PS

Maybe the arrogant bitch should already know its out of order to tell somebody to F*** Off and throw a drink in somebodys face in any culture, you dont need to know Thai customs to understand that.

But according to the OP she was already fed with being badgered so I'm a bit confused why she couldn't just walk away?

When does the pestering stop?

And of course if that smidgeon of awareness had been give to the person trying to flog their crap (not that will ever happen in LOS), the incident may never have happened?

How do you know she was an arrogant bitch and not just a completely hacked off, at the end of her tether tourist, who had tried everything else to get rid rid of the unwanted hawker?

Still, she was female, threw her drink, so I guess that makes her an effing bitch?

I've possibly taken a stereotypical view of it.

It just instantly conjures up images of a hammered farang on her 2 week jolly getting bothered by the inferior locals.

Whatever the situation was, im sure walking away wasn't an impossibility.

Hi Caller :)

I think it is just a case of good manners, or bad manners in this case.

Of course the hawkers in most towns in Thailand can be a nuisance, but the response of the lady in question was OTT.

She should have known what she was planning to do would be wrong in her own country, let alone in Thailand.

I don't know about your idea of sending tourists to some sort of school, she should already have learnt good manners as a child, if adults need to learn good manners, it is a bit too late, don't you think?

As for the Thai vendors, well the level of education enjoyed by many Thais is very poor, that is why many end up doing the jobs they do.

Just my HO :thumb:

I sort of understand how this woman may have felt.

There is one nasty little sh-t in town who does not take a polite no, even in Thai. The same guy will pester you all night coming round again and again.

I know I am not the only one to get hacked off with this individual, by late evening he will approach you for the 5-6 time and when you again say a polite no thanks he will purposely bump into you.

There used to be some very polite watch sellers in town and I have on occasions had a chat and a joke with them and bought them a drink, but I have been told these guys were driven out of town and replaced with the scum we have now.

Amazing the response on here just because it was a woman who threw a drink over the guy, I have seen many guys get much worse to the point of threatening the watch seller. He is a real low life.

None of us except maybe the poster and the woman in question really know how much he may have intimadated her, but I am sure this watch seller pushed her to the limit just because she would not buy one of his 24hour lifetime watches.
