Poke Talk

Post by Randy Cornhole »

Just a heads up for this new service really. Its at http://www.poketalk.com

You just sign up, choose your countries, yes Thailand is one of them, and phone for up to 10 mins free!

Its advertisment driven so that according to them is how they can offer the service.

In their own words... PokeTalk offers consumers the ability to make completely free phone calls, from both landlines and mobiles. In addition, there is absolutely no need for headsets, microphones, PC speakers, or any other accessories or special adapters.

When ready to make a call, place the number you want to dial as well as your own, and then PokeTalk takes over and does the rest of the work for you!
After pressing call, your phone will ring instantly and then automatically you will be connected to the person you are dialing. All domestic and international calls are totally free because costs against them are paid by advertising revenue generated on the PokeTalk web site.

I haven't had time to try it yet, but it looks worth a punt... :D

I just registered on their website. It seems Thailand is one of the countries that you can make free calls to, but you cannot seem to make the free calls from Thailand... :(

I’m in the wrong place to, if I was about ten minutes east I would be in Germany and OK and about twenty minutes west would be France, but Luxembourg doesn’t get a mention in the middle so I’ll get one of my colleagues who lives in Germany to try it.

Hi RC :thumb:

Works OK UK to Thailand just tried it.
My phone package allows me free International calls to 35 countries but Thailand is not one of them.

This will help to reduce my bills, as the wife seems to spend hours on the phone to her mum in LOS

Cheers

Careful though - what happens after the free 10 minutes? Do you get cut off, or does the rate per minute go through the roof?

Also, can you speak to someone for, let's say, 9 minutes, then put the phone down, redial the same number and get another free 10 minutes, then repeat the same sequence of events until your conversation is complete.

Probably not but worth a try. :naughty:

Hi spitfire

I will get the wife to speak for 10 mins and see what happens after that.
I'll give it one go and then wait to check my online bill.
Let you know what happens when I get new monthly bill
According to the site you are allowed 50 calls a month = 500mins.

Hi Khundon

I'd be interested in hearing your results, calling LoS when I'm back in Blighty is costing a fortune and this is it works sounds like a great alternative.

Cheers

For anyone in the UK, I make calls from a landline to Thailand for half a p per minute. That is only 30p per hour. Works very well.

The access number is 0844 200 9898 then just follow the instructions. Has worked great for me for the last 3 months.

It doesn't matter if you're calling a landline or mobile, the charge is the same. However, you do have to call from a landline.

Thanks for that info HHTel it will come in handy, unfortunately I make most of my calls to LoS using my mobile is there something similar for this?

Cheers

John HH, I am the same. For reasons I won't go into I only have use of a mobile. So it seems I cant use 'poketalk' If I phone Thailand for 15 mins it costs me about £6.

Anyone got any ideas...
