In Dec. 2003 Princess Sirindhorn visited Pattaya with the senior class from her Cadet school and walked the entire length of Beach Road, from the Dusit to where walking street starts. The beach cleanup started 3 days prior to arrival and for the last 12 hours, no one was allowed on the beach at all. They even raked it smooth. It was beautiful indeed, and ashame it didn't last.

For sure where these guests are going to stay, work or visit in HH, I'm sure everything will be pristine the entire time. Pete

Hi prcscct :)

They say here in UK that our Queen thinks the World smells of fresh paint, because everywhere she goes, there is a team of guys 10 feet in front of her giving everything a fresh coat of paint.

I expect the same will happen when the delegates arive in Hua Hin.

Looks like the road management madness has begun, a load of cones bolted to the floor along Petchkasem forcing vehicles turning right to block an entire lane instead of waiting in the middle - great idea.

I wonder how effective all of the no parking signs will be also!

This is the time that the tessaban need to badger the transport ministry for money to fix Hua Hin's road problems such as that infuriating bottle-neck over the railway at the G-supermarket, the accident prone turning in and out of soi 56, and the general lunacy along the main road near the schools.

Last time I went that way (last week), it looked as if there was some sort of work going on there. Any developments?

From The Nation:

Prachuab Khiri Khan's revenue office is prepared for tourist tax refund, in preparation for the 14th Asean Summit.

On Friday, the office had a meeting with shop owners. During the Feb 27-March 1 meeting in Hua Hin and Cha-Am, it is expected that foreign tourists would spend millions of baht.

Taweesri Vikayathipat, chief official on tax refund for tourists, assured that the foreign spenders would be assisted in refunds. She said the refunds would encourage them to spend more.

Thoughts: Why would tourists spend more if there is a summit here? Maybe they're thinking of all the press and entourages, another great incentive to get people here - offer what every other country in the world does normally.

Nice to see the providers strangling Hua Hin's internet connections leading up to it also - if you're based here don't expect to get back online until mid next month.

Unless I've missed the obvious, I still haven't seen exactly where the summit will be held - in town or at some isolated resort?

I've heard various rumours including closure of the beach and all markets in HH. Does anyone have any concrete info on what restrictions (if any) apart from parking will be in place, or will we just have to wait and see?

No doubt there will be motorcades and traffic delays all over the place. Sounds like a good time to visit the family in Isaan...

Yes, it was this post...
hi there It's now been offcial

The Venue for the Meetings of ASEAN Delegations will be The Dusit Thani Hotel & Resort in Hua HIn. The Transportation Issue has also been resolved as well. As It's Well known that Hua HIn Airport cannot accomodate the LAndings of Big Aircrafts. So The World leaders will Fly with Their Planes in wether if it's AIrbus or Bioeng into Suvarnabhum and than transferred into a smaller Aircraft which will take them to Hua HIin.

Your's The understudy!!!

Next week's Cabinet meeting moved to Hua Hin
The Nation Feb 19, 2009

The Cabinet will hold its weekly meeting next week in Hua Hin to get prepared for the Asean summit there, Deputy Spokesman Suparak Khunha said Thursday.

The red-shirted supporters of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra plan to besiege the Government House on Tuesday when the Cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

The spokesman said the relocation of the meeting venue has nothing to do with the demonstration of the red-shirted people.

Suparak said the meeting would be held in Hua Hin because Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his Cabinet members would check the progress of the preparations for the Asean summit which will be held there from February 27 to March 1.

Asean summit security high

HUA HIN (Thailand) - THOUSANDS of Thai security forces guarded the beachside venue of a major South-east Asian summit on Thursday, as protesters kept up a vigil outside the seat of government in the capital.

Police with sniffer dogs guarded the Dusit Hotel in the resort town of Hua Hin, where ministers from the 10-member Association of South-east Asian Nations (Asean) will arrive later in the day for informal meetings.

Regional leaders will fly in on Friday for the formal summit which takes place at the weekend, and bomb squad units were scouring the town 180km south of Bangkok ahead of their arrival.

In the capital, red-shirted anti-government protesters rallied for a third day outside Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's office to demand new elections, but officials said there was no threat to the summit.

'Police have deployed 5,700 officers to provide high security for the summit,' deputy national police chief General Virote Paholvej told reporters.

'We are now 100 per cent ready and confident the meeting will run smoothly.

Our intelligence reports say there has been no movement of red-shirts or of protesters from any international groups,' he said.

Foreign ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat played down the Bangkok demonstrations, saying that 'no one (from Asean) has been asking Thailand about the protests at Government House.' Months of protests against the previous government, peaking with the occupation of Bangkok's airports late last year, forced Thailand to postpone the summit from its original date in December.

That government, linked to ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was toppled by a court ruling, allowing Abhisit to take power and angering the pro-Thaksin 'red-shirts'. The current meeting in Hua Hin is a watered-down version with key regional partners including China and Japan saying they were unable to attend.

Asean leaders are expected to focus on protecting the export-driven region of nearly 600 million people from the global financial crisis. They will also discuss the formation of a regional human rights body but isues such as repression in military-ruled Myanmar are expected to take a back seat to the economy.
