Go to your local immigration office
Lomu, I went out through Swampy two weeks ago and they have a notice up confirming that the Airport Office is closed. It states that: " please apply at Suan Plau for your re-entry permit". A day in Bangkok before your flight might be an option, and it may well take most of the day to get one!lomuamart wrote:PS, an afterthought.
Be careful of re-entry permits. I'm pretty sure that the office at Swampy has closed now. So if you're leaving the country it sounds like it's going to be trek to Prachuap to get the necessary stamp before you travel. The alternatives will be missing your flight or letting your extension and original visa lapse.

Barry, as far as I know you can get a re-entry permit at any Immigration office--they do not need access to your file to do that, and in any case, the records are now supposed to be on line. I usally get one when I do my extension renewal, so the question has not come up for me.barrys wrote:Does anyone know the situation for re-entry stamps.
Can I still get one from any immigration office or do I now HAVE to get it locally.
Also, what time does the imm office in soi 102 open in the mornings?
Thanks for your help.
The Soi 102 office is SUPPOSED to be open from 8-00 am.

barrys,
I'd be careful of trying to get your re-entry permit at the airport. To the best of my knowledge the office there is closed, but there's no announcement on any Imm website that I can see.
Probably better to get the stamp in HH first?
I think Nereus is right that you can get the stamp from any Imm office but it would be a bit frustrating to turn up at Swampy and find that you couldn't get the necessary stamp and your flight was leaving in two hours - at 1am?

On my way to Vientiane last Monday I went into Nongkhai Immigtration Office to get a re-entry stamp.
Whan I went to collect my passport from the head of the section (Police Captain), she explained to me very politely that under the new rules and regulations I should have obtained this from my local immigration office. She told me this also applies to 90-day reporting.
She did give me the stamp but it would appear that we are now required to do everything through the local office - thank goodness they're staying in Hua Hin.

Well, that is interesting, Barry. I would be willing to bet that if you happened to go out through, say Phuket or Chiang Mai, that you would be able to obtain a re-entry permit. The same with the 90 day BS. Be interesting to ask them to show you the new "regulation".barrys wrote:On my way to Vientiane last Monday I went into Nongkhai Immigtration Office to get a re-entry stamp.

I meant to reply to barry's post yesterday. I specifically asked HH Imm a couple of weeks ago about reporting and re-entry permits and used the example of being up in Nong Khai for either. Was it possible for me do them up there instead of HH? The answer from a plainclothes chap was definitely "yes". The woman who'd been processing my report didn't look so certain but didn't say anything.
I wouldn't want to misinform anyone about these issues because it could get inconvenient to say the least and barry had his experience as well. Maybe it's best to do everything locally from now on to save the hassle?
It does seem ridiculous that you can't be on holiday in Thailand, somewhere other than HH, yet you have to return here to report - not sure whether HH accepts postal reports and OK you can be 7 days late without being fined, but nevertheless.
And re-entry permits? Surely it's logical that Imm offices on a border such as Nong Khai would issue them. Same goes for the airport.

And is this not the crux of the whole carry on?lomuamart wrote:I meant to reply to barry's post yesterday. .
95% of the Officers do not know. They will not tell you that, or tell you that they will find out for you, because that leaves them with the old "lose face" situation. I wager that if Barry had asked anyone of the other Officers there, that he would have been given a different conflicting answer.
Like Lomu says, we do not have any great choice but to follow along with their games.
