How times change - when my wife came to the UK there were only 4 other Thais in the whole of Bristol.

There is a get together in Poole, which is not to far from Southampton, every 6 months I think, my wife has been to a couple of them.

When the monks come, there are usually about 25-30 Thais and most husbands come.
The wife doesn't like any drink being consumed while the monks are here, don't know why!

When it is just a social meal/get together in our homes about 15 or so but that's enough, as they all chat at once. Plus any children they may have come as well

Some of the stuff they cook stinks and I leave to go to the pub.
How many Thai women can you get in a kitchen? answer, too bloody many.

There are many more Thais in the UK than we think, but some do not socialise as the husbands do not like it,

I think the husbands are insecure and don't let their wives out much, except to work.

My wife is not a great fan of the Wimbledon monks - finds them too stuck up. Whenever we've visited their Wat (2.5 hours each way), they've even made us pay for coffee. It seems very one way with them. They are quite happy to take, but don't give very much in return.

The Birmingham crowd are a completely different kettle of fish. 3 or 4 with a driver and a sat nav sounds very familiar. They are really up front guys, quite happy to spiritual guidance when required. They are certainly not afraid to be hospitable - even I enjoy having a chat with them. As I said, if you visit their Wat, tea, coffee etc is there (free) as much as you can drink, and the nuns always put on on an excellent spread of Thai food.

Regarding what they do when they visit, when they visit this area it is always to bless something. I've never known them visit for a general get together.

It seems every other day we are eating in someones house, or the monks are in the house.

I took the frequency of Monk visits to be very frequent. I think you must have been emphasising eating in somebody else's house every other day, with occasional visits from monks.

Yes sorry, Monks visit occasionally, wives visit a lot.

Monks visits are part social and part ceremonial, blessings or birthdays etc.
Still good fun which ever reason they come for though.

My wife agrees, Birmingham monks are better.

We were going to visit on the way back from our place in the Lakes last year but we were running late and had to give it a miss.

Wife will be going later this year with friends I think.

She will enjoy the experience. If you get the chance you wouldn't regret it either. Our friends in Aberystwyth actually hire a bus every time they go.

I'm sure she will BB, Thais love a get together.

RC what are the chances that you will be able to get your wife to the UK?
I'm sure you will find that any Thais she meets here will be very supportive and make her feel at home.

My wife has 6 Thai friends in a 3 mile radius.

We have some good friends down Bournemouth and when ever we visit them we allways go to the Thai shop just up the road, in there i read a poster advertizing Kinson area, Thai mother and baby, toddler group.

There is also a Thai association or club near to Southampton in Romsey although never been over there.

So there aren't many Thais in Southampton yet then.

Within a similar radius (in Yate) we have 36 Thais - all very friendly together. When you spread your net to encompass Bristol and Bath, you are talking hundreds, and my wife is very friendly with most of them - I just can't keep up.

NB: Not trying to outdo you (saying my cat's blacker than your black cat) - it's just the way it is.

There are even more in Bangkok

If it's the same shop,in Winton (I think it is called Muay Thai) then we use it as well, the wife buys their fermented raw pork, which I slice up and fry. MMMmmm

I may pretend, that having loads of Thai women in the house does my head in but actually, I look forward to them coming, it's good for the wife to have a large circle of supportive friends, when she is so far from home.

Where we live Hythe and Dibden Purlieu, they are two very small towns we are on the edge of the new forest and not in the city of Southampton over there are loads.

I wonder how many Thai's are in the u.k any ideas.

That Thai shop in Winton is called Muang Thai, its o.k but expensive the china town shops in Soton are where we normaly shop.

The last year there was a Thai festival in a park in southampton i know they have one in the Kings park Bournemouth aswell.

This year on sonkran we are going to go up to Wimbaldon so what will we expect.
