Hua Hin cricket sixes at the Dusit

Post by buksida »

The 14th Hua Hin International Cricket Sixes Tournament gets underway today at the picturesque grounds of The Dusit Resort and promises to produce another lively week of festival cricket.

Eleven teams are participating in this year's tournament with four playing in the Cup and seven in the Masters.

Likely to be strong contenders for the Cup are the experienced Melbourne Cup team from Australia. Another capable team are the KCC Woodbines from Hong Kong.

However there will be a strong Thai challenge in the Cup this year with defending champions Thai Thevada determined to hold on to their trophy while the young Thailand Colts team could cause some upsets.

Under a new format all the Cup teams will play one another twice.

There is a strong Australian presence in the Masters tournament with the Melbourne Masters team and Cluden CC who are also from Melbourne and likely to make their presence felt.

Hoping to put on a good show will be the Gold Coast Tigers and Lardna Follies.

The Narayangang CC team from Bangladesh are expected tp provide stiff opposition.

Two local sides will also compete in the Masters with the Thai Masters and the always entertaining Hua Hin Hopalongs.

As usual there will be plenty of colourful characters in action during the week. Leading the cast is Victorian and former Australia speedster Mick Lewis, returning for a second time, along with umpires Don Heapy and Paul Edwards.

Joining them are David Bandy from Western Australia and Aaron O'Brien from South Australia, not to forget the inspirational diplomat-cricketer Brett Farmer, veteran of many a Sixes battle.

Action begins early this afternoon and will continue through to the finals on Friday.

I went to see this and it was terrific cricket in a superb setting. 37 runs in 7 deliveries and they lost! (Must be a conspiracy there somewhere).

Think I'll turn my arm over for the Hua Hin Hopalongs next year, if they'll have me. :thumb:
