Friday evening a friend took me down to the Pier, Lots of people fishing, Eating and drinking, Not really catching much but the atmosphere was really good and seemed friendly enough, Im sure on another night if your wits werent about you it could be a different story.
A safe place to go or somewhere to stay away from in the current climate?

Been invited down before off a motosai friend BZ, may take him up on his offer next time.

Las Vegas aint a bad night out but that would be irrelevant!

Holding onto one of the lamp posts trying to look over the side i was told dont touch you might get electrocuted
Its a H&S nightmare down there, But would you have it any other way
Him Indoors used to fish off the pier quite often with Willo. Must admit usually daytime, but people were always friendly and helpful, shared bait and beer, never a problem.
I think you would know if you ever started to feel intimidated and it would be time to pack up with a smile.
On the subject of safety, i've never felt as safe , anywhere in the world as Thailand. I work in London, and see scallies every day up to no good. I wouldn't hesitate approaching anyone in Thailand , day or night. So, i for one will be heading to the pier to see some fisherman in action
Right with you on that one mrh79.
Thailand is pretty much as safe as it gets especially over this way. I still hear of some petty crime but I never blame an opertunist for making some easy cash to feed their family. I say just dont dangle a carrot, have to take care everywhere.
In Glasgow they will steal you cash also but its for scag not for food, saying that I sometimes feel safer in Africa than I have done sometimes in Glasgow.
wouldn't go near the pier in the early hours of the morning. Ask Buff Bill

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
On the safety front. I too have never felt safe anywhere but always considered myself safe to cruise the streets at night in Harare, New York, LA, London, Leeds and Bangers to name a few.
Problem to me is when you let your guard go down particularly in Thailand with it's image of being the Land of Smiles. I was mugged in my own drive in HH after thinking I was safe home after a binta cruise. The wife was away and I reckon I was followed
Despite I'd not opened the door and allowed him/she/them access to the property some think it was a mistaken identity strike.
STAY STREETWISE

I believe it was a holiday the friday night i was there, So maybe not the regular crowd.
There was a chap netting fish from the side, He had a green neon attracting the fish or squid, Not really catching anything worthwhile from what i saw.
Was wondering if it might be an idea to use one of them survival lightsticks tied to the line on a rod and casting out and trawling in slowly, maybe attracting some larger squid in, Pull em out with a net?

Sorry to hearabout your misfortune, if you dont mind me asking how did the mugging take place?
Sometimes its nice to know details to see if there are any trends apearing also to defend ourselves.
You are right to say everyone should stay streetwise, better safe than sorry, on that note no need to be scared, just be a little more defensive.
You can buy pepper spray on the top floor of market village. lol
Hi Bluezephyr - theres something about the colour of lights used I think. Maybe blue for squid and white for shrimp? Sommat like that. Different colours are supposed to attract different fish. Worth checking out with an expert before dangling the wrong colour maybe!
