Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2009

Post by Beeblebrox »

After trolling the net it appears that this years festival will be from 12-14 June, which is sad for me, as in my hurry to book some cheap fares I forgot all about the jazz & travel back to NZ 12/6/09.
What I'd like to know, if anyone can tell me, is do any of the international artists arrive early & play in somewhere like BKK or have they just done Hua Hin in previous years?
Thanks for you assistance :D

The TAT website are quoting those dates but don't despair just yet, they changed their dates at the last minute last year after posting wrong ones for 3 months so it could well be the week earlier.

That would be perfect for me if they did make the dates earlier. I looked at some of the pics from previous years & I'd love to be there if I could...

Hi

I will be going to this event for the three nights 12th to 14th.

Does anyone fancy meeting up on the Saturday night the 14th for a a few beers and some food. Chill out and listen to some good music for FREE on the beach.

I will be taking the GF so I will have to behave a little!

We may follow this with some Karoke if we can still stand!

Any Takers?

I've seen Shakatak a few times over the years. Excellent live band, not to be missed.

I have just looked at and listened to the link kindly provided by the previous poster.

So that was Shakatak? Nice enough song - cannot fault the musicianship either. Perfect background music for a beach-side cocktail at sundown.

But if that is going to be the high-spot of the Hua Hin "Jazz" Festival I reckon I'll go to Cha-Am for the week-end.

I'll take along a DVD of "Jazz on a Summer's Day" and an MP3 player with a bit of "Bird", a taste of "Trane" and a modicum of "Miles". Then I will laze on the beach and remember those halycon days at Montreux, Richmond and Usk - when a jazz festival guaranteed the aficionado some great music from the jazz greats.

cadacus,
Shakatak are the 'name' band, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the lesser known names in the line up; it is unlikely that any jazz festival could equal the greats you are quoting, but given that it is free and by the looks of it better organised this year I think it will be a good one. The only potential flies in the ointment are the incompetent traffic management (as already witnessed last weekend) and the tide, which has blighted some previous jazz fests here. The good thing is that there is a stage away from the beach this year, in the park opposite the TOT office (Ponkingpet Park I think it is called). I should imagine it will mean that road being closed off though.

Hua Hin is only 2.5-3 hours from Bangkok, Taxi is 2000 Baht, Bus from from Sai tai mai is about 180 Baht if my memory's correct.

Phuket is 8-9 hours by bus.

The beach is right in Town, here is a Map, the main stage is near the Sofitel.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
