I miss Thailand...

Post by Randy Cornhole »

I would just like to say that some of the happiest times of my life were the 5 years I spent in Thailand and I miss it terribly.

Buddha willing I will be back soon.

Stop moaning all you pessamists its a big bag of stinky dog poo back here in Blighty. Just be glad you are there, annoying Thai traits and all.

In the words of the great bard 'its better to be there and drunk than here and skint' ...

Sorry for the rant, just feeling a bit low at the moment... :|

I've known so many people who became angry at something here and went home. (I know not your case Randy). Only to feel this same way and long to get back after a year or so.

It even happened to me while living in Hawaii and that place is hard to beat.

No idea why this happens, voodoo Thai spell I guess. :D Pete

C'mon Randy, the great escape is beckoning man. I'm always impressed when someone can hack it back in the UK for so long after seeing/experiencing paradise here for as long as you did.

Careful Randy,

They say "you can't go home again", meaning that the good times you remember will be different or not exist if you go back. That happened to me after I left my original home town for a few years. Friends had settled down and married and had families, familiar bars had closed or changed drastically. Old girlfriends were either fat or married with kids... (or both!)

The memories can sometimes be better than trying to relive reality!

Mr.RC: Your heart is obviously here, and that's where you should be. Have you ever thought about teaching here? Despite what other websites might say, you can get a job and work permit without a degree. It's up to the school. I think you'd make a great teacher - probably far better than the 'straight out of university with no life skills' kids that can find a job here.

On a slightly serious note we'll be going back to the UK next April for three weeks. You're very welcome to house-sit our place while we're away. Free of charge. It's not in Hua Hin, but at least it's in Thailand.

Keep your pecker up (metaphorically speaking  ). Where there's a will, there's a way. Don't you just hate people who use cliches.

Qatar - a veritable paradise island in the Arabian gulf with beer and debauchery aplenty compared with Kuwait which is just a tad better than Saudi

Life is good anywhere if you're not struggling to get by financially. I lived in Saudi for four years and look back on it as one of the best times of my life.

I lived in a Western compound of 14 homes and a swimming pool and it was the best social life I've ever had. We all made our own beer and wine and there was a circulating party at one of the homes every night of the week.

The Red Sea was five minutes away so I could go scuba diving any day (or night) of the week. I had a sailboard and went wind surfing every weekend. There were wonderful unspoiled beaches where you could spend all day with your friends and not see another person.

I had seven weeks per year paid vacation and more money than I knew what to do with so all my vacations were first class/5 star.

Now, I live in a wonderful place but have no money to take advantage of what it has to offer (or ever to escape for a holiday elsewhere).

Everything's relative...

No, but I used to go diving near Yanbu though. Our compound was on the north edge of Jeddah but the city has expanded and I think that location is now within the city from what I have heard from people who live there now.

When were you there? I was there from 1980 to 1984.
