Thanks for all the info.. have got quite attached to him (although still think he looks scarey!!).. so long as he stays outside the house we're gonna get along just fine. Am glad he's quite harmless if left alone, as didnt fancy trying to catch him and re locate him.
Hi VS .. yes i also saw a monitor lizard on one of our lanes.. was amazing.. was told not to tell the locals though as they would hunt him and eat him??
We have two Tokays in the house with the pool pump, a big one and a smaller one.
Today I went into the pump house and saw a green snake of about 1 m length. I think it was a rat snake, but rather more green than on this photo:
I managed to put it outside. There on the wall was the smaller Tokay. The snake jumped very fast at it, got it and wrapped about ten times around it to squeeze the life out of it, while the Tokay cried for help. So we freed the poor Tokay and killed the poor snake. But I dont like snakes in the pump house.
Good deed 50-50. The tokay won't remember and still bite your finger off when it gets bigger. Tokay eat chingchokes and therefore your insect population may increase. Rat snakes usually eat rats which is a good thing. Tough decision. In the heat of the moment though the snake always loses, especially if one is not sure what kind it is. Pete
