Completely off topic, but the paradox of many British skinheads of the original era, was their love of Black music, which enabled mainstream introduction of ska and reggae into these shores, ultimately leading to The Specials and the like.

I was more of a 'psuede head' i.e. Monkey Boots, not Doc Martens and certainly not a Cromby or having the barnet cropped (God forbid)!

Anyone remember this?

That's how I dressed - "With his fringe and buckle loafers and his two-tones on his strides" I did that before the song came out, guess what I was called after? :D

Anyway, :offtopic:

Absolutely, they originated from Jamacian Ska music and Rude Boys, but that was early on it was a decade or so before they became 'far right'. As you say ironic, particularly as the Specials had two black band members.
Caller will get this but heard Liquidator maybe 20 times but only went away with 2 points :cuss:

Sorry ..... :offtopic:

I did get it SJ and if its any consolation, before we went on that run, I was at yours for I think a night game, when we got tonked 4 or 5-1?!

I'm glad folk recall the original stuff wasn't so much about politics, if it ever was, I guess there must have been an element there all the time, though?

The first 'skinhead' record I knew of was this one, but most of what I learnt was from the black kids I was at school with.

Actually, this is a great clip of the Specials performing in '79? (Did they exist then)? God knows why Terry Hall chucked his tambourine at someone? They were great at Glastonbury this year by the way! And a free live album in next weeks Sunday Times - not sure that will be available in LOS?

head bobbing

Post by LAnative »

THAT'S where I've seen that head bob!
Really? Never heard of "Skin Heads"? Perhaps they are called something else in Europe (where there are a contingent in Germany I read throttling foreigners).
This is why I LOVE this forum. I learn so much about jargon and culture from elsewhere. :thumb:

You will be a mine of useless information, by the time you hit the streets of Hua Hin. :thumb:

KD,

He or she was given the name Drama Queen in a much earlier post...and he or she seemed to like it!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

DQ

Post by LAnative »

HE was given the title by valrhona in response to a posting I wrote about the parallels between the war debt that took down the Roman Empire and same that is taking down the US and the rest of the world with it due to the credit meltdown induced recession. The policies of the FORMER administration, not the current one, allowed financial Russian roulette thru deregulation. This credit crunch is causing high unemployment in the US and THERE. High debt causes inflation, which lowers the value of retirees pensions as well. But this forum's policy is to "Shoot the messenger".
Buddhists say that what you resist persists. A derogatory title loses it's power once accepted. It also shows the level of consciousness of the creator of it.
One thing I've learned on this forum is NEVER to express any feelings. It generates hatred from those who fear their own feelings or the fact that they have any at all. They are afraid they might be labelled effimate. And I'M the one with issues!

OK LAnative :)

Can we now take it as read that you have accepted these derogatory titles for the reasons you have described, so please could you refrain from putting them at the bottom of your posts.

I'm a man of the world but my wife reads these posts from time to time and she is more sensitive to these descriptions than I.

Thanking you in anticipation.
