Hulltoon,
Let me be a bit presumptuos here I take it you are not an Australian citizen or don't have a permanent residents' visa and that the gf is possibly a Thai passport holder and you both want to visit Oz, correct ???
If this is the case you will more than likely to be up for a lenghty application and with the real possibility of refusal unless you can justify why you need to be in the country for that length of time, obviously you will need sufficient funds to finance your stay - some proof of long term bank account details will be asked for you both.
You will also have to show that you have solid jobs and or assets such as a buisiness or property or studies that require of you both to have to leave the country at the end of your visit.
If your gf is under about 35 years and you are not married she is going to get a little extra scrutiny too.
I'm basing these comments on experience having been a sponsor and guarantor on a couple of occassions.
Please don't let me put you off just make sure you have all bases covered
as an initial refusal can make subsequent applications heavy going.
Tip... the Thai staff at the Oz embassy have to be some of the most up them selves people around. DO NOT rub them up the wrong way or applications will "get lost" or marked " insufficient detail" which means you have to reapply and pay a fee again.
I am told the front counter is a contracted service so I will let you work out for your self what that means .
Good luck and hope you get to visit Oz

Complexity is so simply overrated
Deepee - spot on. Had similar experience when trying to get "tourist" visa for my fiancee. Had to prove contacts as well - photos, phone calls etc. Good also to have tours/courses already arranged with appropriate documentation.
If you are Thai good steady job, police clearance, property, family all rated highly.
Seems if you go to one of the external "visa assistance" businesses they will expedite matters. No guarantees except for the price.
However if you are a refugee from Nth Africa or willing to take a boat ride from our neighbours to the Nth might make process simpler ha, ha.
Yes the front of counter staff have been learning their trade from some of their Oz bureaucrats and have passed with flying colours. Makes the group at the Thai Imm here in HH look like they have a gold star in customer relations. Reminds me of the character in Little Britain - computer says NO.
Good Luck as Oz is worth the visit.
Trying to develop tourism in Oz - you must be joking!!
