Advice please!

Post by Betty_Boop »

Hello! :P

My boyfriend and I are getting married in Chiang Mai next year and are planning the rest of our trip at the moment. This will be our second trip to Thailand and we like the idea of spending the honeymoon part of our trip in Hua Hin.

We are looking for a place that offers some traditional Thai life (rather than pure tourist), along with things to do on an evening - restaurants, night markets etc. We would also like some 'time out' on the beach. Does this sound like what Hua Hin has to offer?

Can anyone recommend any good hotels and also give us some advice on the best way to get there from Bangkok. Is there a rail link?

We also quite fancy some Island hopping for a few days of complete relaxation. Is that possible from Hua Hin and if so, where would you suggest?

Many many thanks in anticipation.

Welcome aboard, for accom for couples I'd recommend Kaban Tamor a few k's north of HH in Khao Takiab, there are pics, reviews and you can book direct online here:
http://www.r24.org/huahinafterdark.com/ ... abantamor/

There is a direct rail link from BKK but its slow and arduous, if time is limited grab a cab, should cost no more that 2 grand.

For islands you need to leave HH completely (by bus and Lomprayah ferry - details in the 'On The Road' section) and get down to Tao, Phan Ngan, and Samui.

Enjoy.

Thanks Buksida!

That hotel looks amazing!! We quite fancy train travel as a way of seeing some of Thailand. We flew everywhere last time and on top of feeling like we spent a lot of our holiday at airports, we felt we missed so much of the country. I see there is a train from bangkok to chiang mai as well!!

Thanks for your help, its really appreciated.

No worries, train travel is one of the best way to see Thailand if you have the inclination (I'll contradict my above post here), you just need to be a little patient and have no desire to be somewhere fast. Take the third class train, it'll cost about 50 baht, and will take about 5 hours from the city to Hua Hin, take a camera and sit near the window ... or, even better dangle your feet out of the open door (they won't let you sit on the roof in Thailand!)... :thumb:

I reckon thats about as far as you'd get on the roof before some PLFAFRTF soldier took a shot at ya!

Buks, not to be confused with the Tooting Liberation Front

Betty Boop, there is a VIP bus service that operates from Chiang Mai which I think operates a day and night service direct from CM to Hua Hin.
Cost is about 800baht each way.
These are not your normal blue/white buses that operate between BKK and Hua Hin but new or near new 32 seater coaches that have decent seats, air conditioning that works and regular stops along the way.

They are run by a company called sombat tours and can be booked at Chiang Mai bus depot. They do have a website, but last time I looked was only in Thai.
Here is a timetable, from the last time I looked they have added another service but seems to be older 48 seater bus, but still 2 x 32 seater trips per day

Before buying a house in Hua Hin we always stayed at the Sailom hotel, nice rooms and a real friendly staff. you also have direct access to the beach. A nice quiet setting and not far from the town centre. have a nice honeymoon!

Hua Hin is a tourist / ex pat destination and is not traditional Thai life....if you want that then you need to head North or North East (Issan) but if you dont speak Thai you will have problems.

If you want to see some countryside (which all looks the same) then you could take a taxi from the airport (the bus is boring) and ask him to stop whenether you see a photo opportunity.

I have been to various places in Thailand (to meet girls lol) and found that the best parts are usually the tourist places...ie.samui/phuket/krabi/chang mai

Hello

Thanks so much for all your help!

Are there any more hotels in the same area as Kaban Tamor? We like the idea of being a bit out of the hustle and bustle but near enough to taxi in for the evening.

Thanks again.

Looking at the map, you'd be no more than 5 minutes from the centre by taxi.

If you use the Hua Hin map link http://www.maphuahin.com/, you'll be able to look at the Hotel website map, and then see for yourself which other hotels are in the area.

Take a look at Putharasca, http://putahracsa.com/PHHNEW/frame.html
If you want to treat yourself this is a great place, staff are super and the rooms are super romantic.

You could stay in Pak Nam Pran about 30 minutes south of Hua Hin, very quiet and peaceful but no good if you want any sort of nightlife. This place is nice too - http://www.purimuntra.com/

Enjoy!!!
