Octoberfest
Are there any Octoberfest celebrations here in Hua Hin (with real German beers)? I believe the annual celebration started today in Munich.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Guten Abend hhfarang
I think the Sofitel Hua Hin Resort and Mariott Hotel are having an Oktberfest Celebration. with a real Bavarian Style Cold & Warm Buffet. Ohh yeah I think it will cost a fortune to attend these 2 events other then that I do;t see any Event Celebrating by Hua Hin officials whatsoever.
Prost und O Zapf is hhfarang!!!

Re: Octoberfest
I saw that too and can't quite figure out why Octoberfest officially starts on September 20 and I think ends on October 6? Probably someone screwing around with the original, traditional dates for some commercial or political reason. Pete,
I can't remember now exactly, but when I worked in Munich (for Siemens) I asked why it was called Octoberfest if it was mostly in September and was told something like it lasts two weeks and ends on the first Sunday in October so most of it is actually at the end of September (although this doesn't go along with your October 6th date).

10/6 was just a stab at what I recall reading. Could well have been 10/4. Petehhfarang wrote:Pete,

The first Oktoberfest was held on 12 october 1810,as a celebration for the wedding of prince Ludwig 1,later King Ludwig and Therese ,who gave the name to the place the oktoberfest is held (Theresienwiese). They organised a horserace with a lot of succes,so they decided to do it every year. The horserace stopped in 1960.
The festival starts in september only for a question of weatherconditions, wich will be better the two weeks before the first october w-e ,then after.
I was not there at this time but got it from Wiki
Prost

I lived in Southern Germany for the first 7 of my 12 years in Germany.
The best thing we found about going to the Oktoberfest was calling into Kloster Andechs (Andechs Monastery) on our way back to Ulm.
It is widely said that the beer produced specially for the Oktoberfest is kept a bit below par (in terms of alcohol concentration) to help counter people getting too drunk.
All that changes when you get to Andechs and drink the dopplbock beer brewed by the monks.
The Helles (light-coloured beer) has an alcoholic content of 11.5%, and Doppelbock Dunkles (dark beer) reaches a dizzy 18.5%.
Apart from that, they also make their own schnapps (herbs, apples and pears, berries, and honey) which is great to wash down the previous litre mug of doppelbock.
It's also situated in the middle of a beautiful scenic landscape, though I never noticed that much when leaving .................

Barry, Andechs doppelbach is my very favorite beer in the world! I went up to that monastery and to their outlet in old Munich as often as possible when I worked there. I have (here) official Andechs glasses and bar mats as souvenirs of the best beer I have ever found in my travels around the world!
