Hua Hin Golf Gossip
I think that buksi may be away that weekend. Hopefully he'll let us know.
It'll probably be best if I start another thread about this or the theme might get lost in this one.
I'll do that a bit later, or tomorrow.
PS, Lomu was +5 this morning at Dolphin Bay and +7 in the afternoon. He's well chuffed and knows that the new set of irons are starting to make a huge difference.
Now where's my beer?

Apologies for having let the idea of another fun day slip by a little. I've had a bit on my mind.
It looks almost definite that I'll have to go back to the UK in about 10 days, for a month - family business.
So, I'm probably not going to be around until the second week of November. If anyone else wants to take over the organisational responsibilities until I return, please do so.
We should certainly do another day and Dolphin Bay seems the best place to do it at.
Over to you folks.
And as I mentioned before, it's probably best to start a new thread on this forum otherwise it'll get lost.

A man and his wife walked into a dentist's office.
The man said to the dentist , "Doc, I'm in one hell of a hurry. I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go play golf, so forget about the anesthetic and just pull the tooth and be done with it."
"We have a 10:00 AM tee time at the best golf course in town and it's 9:30 already. I don't have time to wait for the anesthetic to work!"
The dentist thought to himself, 'My goodness, this is surely a very brave man asking to have his tooth pulled without using anything to kill the pain.'
So the dentist asks him, 'Which tooth is it sir?
The man turned to his wife and said, "Open your mouth Honey, and Show him."

That I can relate to ... I was coming down the 9th yesterday needing a 7 on this par 4 to break 50 for the first time.
What happens? I go full retard and end up with a 9.

Needless to say I didn't play another 9 holes and opted for beer instead.

For the info of anyone going along Titleist and Cobra are the same company and also own Footjoy, world leader in shoes and gloves.
Titleist is by far the worlds leader in golf balls and also make excellent quality clubs, I think Cobra was initially a way into the cheaper end of the market for them but not sure, quality wise very little between the two now I would guess!

Has anyone done any research over there concerning current costs of membership at the various clubs? I ask as there seems to be some fire sales going on over here with members selling their memberships prior to going back home for one reason or another, probably the economy and career changes.
As an example, I live at Eastern Star and they no longer sell memberships directly. Due to whatever rules, they've sold the maximum allowed. When they were selling, they were going for between 250-300K baht for family (meaning 2 people), lifetime.
There is now a list of a few dozen reselling families who are only asking 100K +-.
With a membership and paying 10K Baht extra per year, 2 people can play unlimited. If not paying the 10K, 200 baht per 18 hole round. It's just a matter of doing the math to see what fits your style.
Are there added costs like the above with life memerbships at HH clubs?
I haven't done any investigation of other clubs in the area yet, but Eastern Star is very popular so my thinking is memberships for sale at many others may be deeply discounted as well. Pete

Pete,
I haven't been paying close attention lately, but when I was, a couple of years ago lifetime memberships here at most of the good clubs were in the range of 200k to 300k. They were 100k when I came here but I thought I would rather leave my options open to play different places (big mistake), but even if you are a member there are extra charges like caddies, tips, and carts that alone would come to the price I used to pay for Muni courses in the U.S.
Let's face it, golf here (in Hua Hin) is priced for tourists, not for the retired foreigner just getting by.
