Sorry if this has been posted before but I can't seem to find anything, hence the reason for me posting.
Can anyone let me know if the Thai consulate in Hong Kong issue Non O visa based on marriage to Thai spouse? Need to do the visa at the end of next month so am wanting to book tickets. Their website does list prices but I would be grateful for any other info such as how long the application takes and also if they will even issue it in the first place.
Thanks for any advice

Afraid I can't give you any personal experience of HK, but I see no reason why they wouldn't issue a Non O. However, I wouldn't bank on a multi-entry. Even for a single entry, take along the marriage certificate, and copies of your wife's ID card and tabien bahn. A letter from her requesting that you get the visa to support her wouldn't go amiss either. Make sure she signs and dates all copies. I think you've been through the process before at other regional Thai missions?
Have you tried to contact them direct by telephone or email?
I have to ask, have you considered Penang (probably only single entry) or KL (more chance of multi-entry if you have funds in a Thai bank account)?

Hi Lomu
The wife will be going with, hence the reason why we're thinking about Hong Kong as we've both been to Panang and KL in the past. Just fancy something different......lol. The Royal Thai Consulate website does list prices for the visa but as you know, you can't always go on such info. Anyway, the wife has strict instructions to phone the consulate today so I'll post here whatever the outcome.
BTW........I did get that 60 day extension to support kids on the back of a 15 day Ranong stamp as I had mentioned in an earlier post.
Will post back here soon

Takiab,
Everything I've ever read or heard about HK is the same (no personal experience or from friends though), as long as you have all the required documents they will issue you a non 'O' based on marriage, but ONLY single-entry, never multi's, ever. Apparently they always say you can get an extension in Thailand after the 90 days!!!
Someone emailed them about 6 months ago and got a reply saying the following was required:
- Marriage certificate original & copy.
- Wife's Thai ID card, her Thai passport and the Blue Book her name is on (copy is acceptable for Blue Book).
- Your passport original & copy.
- Your recent photo.
- Itinerary, including flight ticket to Thailand.
This all seems to stack up with Lomu's info too, but things change as we know so above list needs checking up on. Apparently they are non-flexible if any document is missing or a copy where an original is required etc, so I'd take your whole filing cabinet!!
Good luck,
SJ

I don't think 400K is necessary in KL. I think I remember seeing reports that 100K might do it for a multi-entry.Takiap wrote:Oh yes, forgot to mention I don't have 400K in an account....
Remember, you're applying for a visa, not an extension. There are no hard and fast rules about income or savings for O visas. Regional Thai missions make their own rules up.
So, it might be worth your while getting in touch with KL as well if you have some savings here (especially as SJ has confirmed that you'll only get a single entry in HK). They might issue a multi-entry if you have.

Takiap,
I'm not even sure that KL do demand any indication of income/savings, although it is always useful to show something like that. It certainly doesn't have to be in a Thai bank though, as I included the certificate for my 5 year savings bond, which is based offshore with the Bank Of Scotland, so if you have any reasonable amount of money in an account that you can show paperwork for I think that will suffice in KL, if it is needed at all. I can't answer your HK query though.
If you fancy somewhere different it might be worth contacting the Perth Thai consulate, as it seems to get good reports from Australians, so they may well be the same for foreigners. The only issue there might be visas to go to Oz but I doubt that is a major problem. There is a consulate in Bali as well, but I don't know if they issue the visa you want. Again, either calling or emailing them should tell you what you need to know. You should be able to get cheapish flights to both of those destinations though, and are good spots for a holiday!

WL/Lomuamart are right I think, don't have to show anything for a Non O single entry, just what SJ pointed out in his list and you get the visa for 90 days. Extending it after the 90 days is a different matter and that's where the problems start but to get the initial visa is a piece of cake, I've never had to show income to get the initial Non O visa, just need what's on SJ's list.
