THAILAND - the worlds best
THAILAND - the worlds best
this is comfirmation of what most of us know
Thailand is World Best Tourist Country
BANGKOK, Jan 25 (TNA) – Thailand has been named as the World Best Tourist Country in the 2005 Grand Travel Award held in Norway early this month.
It is the third consecutive year Thailand won the award with Greece and Italy coming second and third.
Chitriya Pinthong, Thai Ambassador to Norway, and Nattheera Kachornserilikitkul, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Stockholm Office in Sweden, represented Thailand at the annual award presentation ceremony.
The accolade was granted to Thailand under the deliberation and decision by the Travel Trade Jury and 300 tour companies in Norway.
It shows tourists remain impressed by the friendliness of Thai people, as well as natural beauties and charms of Thailand’s tourist sites although the country experienced a great loss from the tsunami disaster in late December 2004.

Thailand - The world's best
So, if you trust the word of a tour operator, and don't ask any tourists.............300 employees working for some of the Norwegian tour operators, voted

Why Japan isn't on the list
I lived in Japan for 14 years & agree that there is a lot for tourists to see & do over there -- BUT it is VERY expensive indeed, hotels outside of the big cities are rarely better than 2 or 3 star, & knowledge of English beyond Tokyo is poor. The Government claims to be working hard to attract more tourists (at present, Macau gets more than Japan), but it's going to take a lot of work & a lot of changes!prcscct wrote:It's interesting in that Thailand is the only destination in Asia listed. I would have though at least China, Japan, Hong Kong would be popular also due to their cultures and diversity. Pete
However, I agree that China & HK should be on the list.

was the origanal post and not 300 employies of tour groups
My post took the original wording from Norseman's post and highlighted the phrases deliberately.
I note that the actual News item from the 'Bangkok Post' http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_new ... p?id=75428 agrees with jambo's post.
Still suspicious of 'Travel Trade' plugs though - "World's Best Tourist Country" - is this for the tourist trade or for the tourist?
Call me a cynic if you will................

Sorry to be stubborn about this but....
If you guys are able to read Norwegian; here is the original posting that states 300 employees and not travel agencies.

I intend to live forever - so far so good.
Maybe the 300 employees each asked 300 tourists, kind of a pyramid holiday poll type of thing ? Ok, maybe not.
So what would anyone say was a bettererer holiday destination than Thailand ?
I'd say you can't beat Thailand, as it has a bit of everything:
Weather, stunning beaches, culture and history around every corner, friendly people, excellent food, value for money (cheap), beautiful women, layed back and relaxed pace of life (apart from the roads).
Well ...........
