So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.

Hua Hin Kriket

This is off the Aust Cricket Assoc site

International Cricket ‘Sixes’ Tournament

... The tournament is in Hua Hin, Thailand from April 14 - 18 and the venue is the fantastic Dusit Resort and Polo Club.

The cricket, of course, has priority but golf also plays an important part in the Hua Hin experience. There are 4 excellent courses available within easy reach of the Dusit...

Polo Club Hua Hin ?????
I'll bring the cuccumber sanwiches & Gin,oh I wont forget the Roller
Telexs
My apologies for my sluggish reply telexs. None too sure about all the Kriket stuff, sounds terribly upmarket. I gather you are bringing 'the Roller' - good grief my dear fellow there is absolutely no way I could even afford to pay the import duty on my Reliant Robin 3 wheeler.

I did read however that you do intend to bring the cucumber sandwiches and Gin. Excellent - what Gin? My preference nowadays is for 'Bombay Saphire'.

With regard to the Polo, I had to shoot a couple of my ponies last week. Caused an awful uproar I can tell you. I've been 'blackballed' from the Alderly Edge and Knutsford Polo Association. Apparently one is not allowed nowadays to use the word, 'blackballed', as it seems to convey racist undertones.

Yes, I think on balance though, it would be rather pleasurable to watch some chaps play Kriket - don't you know. If you wouldn't mind you could explain some of the intricacies of the game. Who knows - we may even hear the thwack of willow against leather - well at least occasionally if England are playing.

Planning to fly out to Hua Hin just prior to Songkran. HT.

PS Can't stand golf - bores me stiff.
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

Hello HT
Reliant Robin 3 wheeler? I thought only Fools & Horses would associated themselves with this brand of vehicle, some bright Bean advised I should purchase one. There is no way I would bring my genuine diecast 1/64th scale Roller to show someone who owns one of those old chappy.
Oh the memories, many a fine day spent watching the cricket with My man servant(Mahat Mahkoat) serving the chilled Bombay Saphire, pity I cant fit him in my portamanteau.

Iam not totally conversant wih the rules of cricket sixes (being a colonial) however I believe it's something to do with bowling the most maiden overs,I must give it a try.

I don't want to spoil you two chaps cricketing plans, but the Dusit is hardly in the centre of HuaHin!
It's a spiffing place though, and hosts polo matches sometimes as well. Situated on the beach off Petkasem Rd, North of HH between HH and it's little sister ChaAm. You'll need a taxi to get there from HH - unless of course you splash out and book in there!

Thanks Margaretcarnes for the info, have been to HH 3 times, however never been to the Dusit or Songkran. It surprises me Polo would be played in HH,cant imagine the type of horses they'd use, surely not the ones from HH beach.
I have been to racecourses in many parts of Asia including Bangkok, where they stand the horses in the barrier for up to 40mins,poor things must be drugged out of their minds, your flat out getting them in to the barriers in Oz.
Oh yes,we had a big Polo match here in Sydney yesterday at Centenial Park (between the city & Bondi) unfortunately I couldnt attend, the Rollers in for service.

Not really. It's low season and you should be able to enjoy normal low season rates. I believe the rule of thumb is high season rates Nov 1-Feb.28, with a special extra surcharge for the period Dec 15 to about Jan 15. Pete
Hi

I looking to come back at this time in 2010, and most place have the high rates until the end of April. Some are x2 the normal rate.

If some know a nice place that offer the low rate in April please could you PM or give a link to the GH or Hotel.

There are also some bars which lucky for me offer a water free zone.. so once in you can dry out and remain there with out the ice down the back trick. Water guns I can handle, even with cold water, as they show the fun side of the season. But ice water in buckets is another thing. In Hua Hin is more relaxed than other places, Samui was my first time which seemed to go on for weeks and been in BKK which was controlled to just 2 days As far as I know the BIB have not shot any one yet, but it not wise to point a water gun their way.

I have enjoy the Song Kran there the most of all.

One other point I have to say, that the water usage in some of the bars is much greater, so please expect some of the toilet may not have the running water. As the bar have water tanker and not on the full mains, or so I was told - please correct me if i am wrong.

If you go you will have a grand time. and I hope to see you around even if i not know who you are as I will be there.

I think best Martin to go to the hotel list on here and start doing an internet search/direct email concerning rates.

I just randomly punched in a variety of high class and medium class hotels in Pattaya and Bangkok and I get rates reducing to low season level on March 1, April 1, and for some they are staying with their low season rate this high season as tourism is down.

I assume HH is similar, but on a case by case basis. Pete

Elephants Telexs - they use elephants! (Sometimes anyways.)

So just out of interest - in Oz the starting gate is called a 'barrier' then? Starting gates are used most times in the UK now for flat racing, but the Grand National is still started on the tape, which can cause delays and false starts. Never known it go on for 40 minutes though - that's terrible for the horses, especially in Thailands' heat. :(

Elepants ridden by rugby players! But sadly, not in Hua Hin any more. I think they moved the King's Cup matches to Chiang Mai... :(

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Elephants? Oh well their probably faster than half the nags on HH beach, reminds me probably faster than some I've had my money on.

Yes Margaretcarnes Starting gates - Barrier stalls same same. Barriers were invented by two fellow colonials back in 1894. "Jockeys" now I know what we can do with the Oz Rugby team (turn em into Mahoots) after getting beat by Scotland 9 to 8,Scotlands first International Rugby win in 28yrs,at least I seen bit of history.

HUNTING TIGERS
The basic rules of cricket
There are 2 sides one side goes in and when they are out the second side goed in and the highest score wins., unless rain interupts play then the duckworth lewis rule applies and usually the team that has scored less wins but the team that plays more can win. Depends on the run rate overs bowled etc
Confused yet
Cricket sixes when I played was 6 aside everybody bowls except the wicketkeeper and everybody bats.
You can be bowled out stumped, lbw or caught but not off of a no ball. You can be run out or hit wicket.
6 a side is usually 2 or 3 overs per person.
Runs can be scored by hitting a 4 or 6, running between the wickets, wides. leg byes. and no balls.
There are two umpires who regulate the game
Field position include silly point, long on or off, square leg, silly mid on, slip, gully, third man, cover. mid off.
Confused I am off to bed got a head ache :D
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Yes HT but where does bowling the maidens over come into it? Oh they must be the one's in slips.
Well we've gone from a question on Songkram,to cricket & the rules of such,Polo with big fat elephants riding rugby players,to horses running with barriers around em (sorry) Margaretcarnes "Starting Gates".

My next question is, How do you get down off a duck?

This thread is about Songkran and not polo.
Let's get it back on track please.

Therefore :offtopic: please ( for the first and last time).
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
