Went with him to the local hospital where he is to have his dressing changed and had a quiet word with the doctor. The hospital by the way is a spin off from the Khon Kaen public hospital. I explained my position insomuch as I am a farang and Dan was my wifes nephew. I said that it was not my place to interfere in family or village matters but I was concerned for the lads well being.
The doctor told me not to worry as he had recommended to the lads parents that he should be sent to the main hospital in Khon Kaen and he would be taken there tomorrow. Phew!
Thank you all for your postings many of which confirmed my position and minimal interference to avoid loss of face.
I will keep you posted as to the results. Dan has always been one of my favourites in the village

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
Yeah well done Ricardo, you are on pure solitary benevolent mode right now!
I never come down that far from the mountain to get so close to the common folk like you have on that one, well done man. That deserves a beer when I next see you down town mate!
He has had treatment and been discharged from the KK hospital with antibiotics and instructions for a twice daily dressing change. So things looking good for the little fat nipper.
Out hunting tonight with some Thai guys and we hope to bag a wild pig. Guns came out of the ark I think. Machetes at the ready too.
Wife thinks I am nuts. I think I am too

Great weapon for wild pig hunting....NOT! Looks like a single shot cap and ball left over from the Burmese invasions.
I've had many run in's with wild boar on the big island of Hawaii. One got cornered on my property and broke clean through a cattle fence made to keep full grown bulls out.
I hope there are a lot of those guns, plus machetes, plus trees close by you can scramble up in a hurry. Good luck but you really don't want to mess with an angry boar. Pete

What that guy probably doesn't know is that in the U.S. that gun may be worth thousands (if not hundreds of thousands of dollars) to collectors...
Maybe an antiquing trip around Issan would be worthwhile if one could figure a way to get the finds back to the west.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I would love to be proven wrong, but having seen a few "firearms" in rural Thailand I can pretty well guarantee that it is a home made, highly dangerous, piece of kit. What appears to be a flintlock type of action will probably just be the most convenient way of making the action, using whatever they had laying around.
I too have hunted wild pigs (in Oz), and I would not go anywhere near them with anything less that a .308 (7.62mm), centerfire rifle, preferably semi automatic. The pigs have no manners what so ever!!!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
tried to get get one but told "you farang. cannot have"
TIT. Hangon maybe I should have got my wad out
