Saturday night at Cicada Market, Hua Hin's best kept secret

Post by dahobbit »

Located on the road into Khao Takiab, at the turnoff for the Hyatt Regency and across the soi from Nokka Chan Music Pub.

Khun Jan, the owner of Sasi Restaurant, has built a remarkable place covering about 2 rai of land and including performance amphitheatres and art galleries in preexisting historic houses. Suan Sasi/Cicada Market soft-opened in October and it's hard to describe, it's a combination park, art center and arts, crafts marketplace, and dining/partying place.

Every Saturday night, it hosts a special performance and arts/crafts/antiques market together with food drink and open air wandering among trees and old houses. I've been 3 times already, and every Saturday has been a remarkable event, every one different, and completely unlike anything in Hua Hin up to now. Tonight's show, and in-house production, blew me away. Other weekend has presented high-end acts from Bangkok, followed by some of the best of our local performers, including Khun Johnny, the blind keyboardist who some of you may know. If you don't, be assured. You really want to hear him.

To date, the place has been publicized almost entirely to the Thai, especially Bangkok, crowd. There are signs on tuktuks around town, but they're only in Thai. As a result, this amazing place is still virtually unknown to farang. I found it entirely by accident, when I went to meet a friend at the Hyatt on a Saturday evening. Passing by I heard music, not the usual but really good stuff, and saw people. I said the myself "WTF?" and stopped in. I was totally gobsmacked. It's great and very, very classy.

As said, Cicada Market is located on the road into Khao Takiab, at the cornet of Petchkasem and 'Soi Hyatt', nearly across from Wat Nong Kae. Go. Just go. Next Saturday, from sunset on, main show at 8 pm and partying 'til whenever. You will love it.

Moved to Events & Activities.

This is a fairly small board, and posting in one Forum will suffice. Other instances discussing the same venue have been deleted.

[Edit] In future, if you post in the wrong section, you can PM a moderator to move it for you.

Video of Dec 12 show

Post by dahobbit »

Does anyone have video of Cicada's show on 12 December? It was impressive, expecially as it's an in-house production.

I didn't have my camera, but I saw several people shooting. I'd love to have a clip or two. Thanks!
