I think I have mentioned before that there are a couple of photo albums that I have seen at the Starfish bar that are well worth a look at.

Edit sorry pic 4

I think pic 4 is well after 98 KD. The greenery along the right of the pic wasn't there in 99 - there was a laundry there along with a clothes shop and at one point a restaurant. I've got some old photos somewhere of mainly Soi Kanjanomai around 2000, and also did a video walkabout of the whole Binta/Poolsuk block in 2002 which I might be able to get a copy of. Will need help to transfer it all to the site, but there seems to be a lot of interest now in archive HH stuff which is good. Unfortunately in the early 2000's we didn't have digital cameras, so it will take some time to get stuff together.
Hi Mags :)

The shop on the left was there in 2000, as I used to drive up and park outside to get milk and it was the only place I knew that sold Marlborough Red, which I used to buy, to treat/bribe our builders.

I used to walk past it on Sunday afternoons in 2001, on my way to Buffaloe Bills for a 4 o'clock roast lunch and some falling down liquid.

I could be wrong though Mags, most of my days back then were full of
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Where was Buffalo Bills located back in 2001? I'm simply trying to get my internal timeline calibrated.

BB I think you and Mags are right on BBills as I just got off the phone to the wife and she told me It was 2003 when I had lunches there on the veranda.

BBills was in town opp Mac Donalds I think, If I remember it had an open front, with steps up from the sidewalk.

In mitigation, I did say those days were full of  I don't know what happened to 2001-2003, but I wouldn't be the first chap to lose a couple of years (remember the 60's) :thumb:

The shop was definitely there in 2000, as I was living on Naebkehardt and that shop was my first port of call in the morning, for milk and Marlborough.

Sorry to all for the confusion. It's the Morph.

I started visiting on a regular basis from 2003 and I do seem to remember BBills being where you say, somewhere near Burger King and opposite what is now the place with McDonalds in it.

Here are some more postcards from the early 20th Century.
There must have been some English influence at that time as some of them are entitled Hua Hin-on-Sea!

Interesting to see the last one marked 'Hua Hin on sea Siam'

Nice one Steve... :thumb:

If someone got enough photographs together it would make a great tourist book!!! There's a money making scheme right there...

Out of interest, does anybody know which golf course is featured? I wouldn't think there would be many to choose from back then.

I'm not a golfist BB, but I think it must be Royal Hua Hin which was Thailands first golf course, opening in 1924 (or 1928 depending on where you look).
It would be interesting if anyone can actually recognize the holes as shown on the cards or if it's changed over the years.
Actually I like the name Hua Hin-on-Sea and am going to start using it when talking to my mother.
I can only imagine the English touch came from colonial Brits on leave from Malaya visiting on the way to Bangkok after the railway reached Butterworth.

If he plays golf like he plays pool, I wouldn't want to be standing that close with a camera!

Yes Bills was opposite what is now MacDonalds, on the corner of the tiny soi where Fred had a bar (can't remember the name) and where you can cut through behind JedPeeNong. It was indeed an open sided place, of wood construction, and looked good IMO. A bit like Bon Cafe on Naebkerhardt. Unfortunately I think the wood structure became unsound.
Yes you're right Khundon - that shop on the corner down from Bills was there in 2000, and was a good source for a variety of cigs etc. But it's the other side of that soi - where the covered stalls are - that is the giveaway. It was tarted up quite a lot when the MaiTai extended to take in Little Big Horn, which was about 2001. There was another restaurant down there for a while between the laundry and the dodgy steps.
Thanks for the offer of help BB but I'm afraid the problem is due to my video being done on VHS. If my ex DOES still have it it'll need transfering to digital. Similarly I'll need to get old pics scanned - and don't have a scanner - but it's something to keep occupied with and hopefully we can get quite an album together.
BTW Guess wanted to do it and had I think already collected quite a few photos. I sent him a couple via Buksi - so maybe Buksi knows what happened to Guesses pics?
