Merry Xmas One and All

Post by Ken »

The girlfriend of one of my pals has to pay Bangkok Bank 1,000 baht each time he sends her money.

It must be true as he says she never lies to him! :D

Luckily for me when I transfer money from the UK to my Bangkok Bank Account, the cost, which applies to all branches, is between 250 and 500 baht max depending on the amount.

How did you get on with the complaint Kendo?

I've been asked to send £3000 to a friend in Khon Kaen at the end of next week - I'll be using NatWest, and will let you know how much the charge is when I receive the notification.

I made the transfer today, and specifically asked what it was costing to make the transfer. The lady that did the transfer assured me that I was paying NatWest charges only, which were £20.

I mentioned that somebody I know had recently been charged £32.50, and she said that had to be wrong. Has there been any feedback on the official complaint yet?

I will post again when I receive the official notification that the transaction has gone through.

Try using this information as I cannot see how barclays can refuse to transfer to another Bank.

2. When sending money from overseas to a Bangkok Bank branch in Thailand, what information should I give to my bank?
You should provide the following details to your bank:
- Account name in English as appeared in passbook and account number
- Currency and amount to transfer
- Bangkok Bank SWIFT Code: BKKBTHBK

3. What is the fastest way for me to transfer money from overseas?
An electronic or SWIFT instruction is the fastest way to get funds directly into your Bangkok Bank account.

4. How can I find out if my incoming funds have arrived?
You can contact to Bualuang Phone on 1333 or (66) 0-2645-5555. It is a 24-hour, seven day a week service.

I have sent money from Australia using Commonwealth Bank to Thailand and money is at the other end in a couple of hours (faster than I can transfer in Australia)

Hope that helps

I think there are some anti-money laundering laws, or something similar, that seem to make transferring money on-line from the UK very difficult.
When I was working in Luxembourg you could do this from a local account without any problem, but the UK doesn't seem to allow it.
If anyone is using a bank that will do it, I would be interested in knowing because it's something I could use.

Steve, seems strange that Aussie Banks have some pretty modern transfer system for both local and overseas and you have problem from the UK.
Before I can proceed with any overseas transfer I have to obtain an access code via sms to be able to start any type of online overseas transfer.
If someone managed to get access to my account nothing can be proceeded with without that sms access code.
This sms security code applies to a lot of other operations on my account, so I feel pretty safe that if anyone did actually access my account, they would not be able to access my transfer systems

In that case I'll go and talk to the bank, because they never let me do an international transfer on-line.

If HSBC UK operates like HSBC Hong Kong, transfers over the internet can be done, but you have to register the people, banks, accounts you will be sending to via written and signed application. Once that's in place you're all set forever. The only exception where registration is not needed is if you're transferring into someone's HSBC account. Pete

I can do a swift transfer but i can not do an online transfer on my lap top as i would say to pay a bill or to any other bank account in the UK .
I would like to transfer from my bank in the UK to my bank in Thailand , but can not . If i opened an account at Bangkok Bank London and transferred there ,and they transferred to say BB .Cha -Am this would be OK, but a bit of a run around and probably as much charge as swift.

Pete, its hard in the UK to have moor than one bank or i would have HSBC they seem good . The banks in England want you to close an existing bank and only have there bank . I have tried before to get another but you have to jump through hoops. And closing bank accounts with things in place a big job.
