If you use certain visa agents you don't need to do 90 day reporting. Stopped doing it last year and when the annual visa/WP renewal came up in November nothing was mentioned.

Asked the visa agent about it and she said because they know people in Immigration it's not an issue. Never had to go to Immigration or Dep of Employment for visa and WP renewal, just signed some forms in agents Hua Hin office.

Reason for edit: Assumption about how Immigration office operates removed by SJ.

I went this morning to the new One Stop Service Centre at Chamchuree Square, Bangkok. A separate desk for the 90 day reporting, and a queuing number system that was not working. Never the less, in and out in under 10 minutes, and no hassles, but I was before the due date on my last report.

I politely asked the Junior Granny officer that processed my report about this 7 day argument, and she told me: "no change days". A younger male officer was sitting next to her and he butted in with the same answer.
He appeared to speak perfect English so I briefly told him why I was asking. He kept shaking his head and saying: "no change".

I also asked my Lawyer yesterday, and he does a lot of visa work, and he also told me nothing has changed.

I have no doubt that this is just another scam dreamt up by some "officer" that thinks all Farang are gullible, and will just pay up to keep the peace.

Another poster has stated that the Thais have the right to make the rules, and I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is what is nothing more than straight out extortion, when somebody in a position of authority makes up his / her own rules.

I think that if they try this one me I will just politely ask them to wait while I call my Lawyer, and they can please explain it to him.

Thanks Inspector Nereus, I thought as much, but as she 'kindly' waived the possible fine we didn't push the issue.

I can see possibly more of this kind of thing cropping up, with the introduction of immigration offices in every province. The more there are, the more chance for deviations and out-and-out lies to try and confuse us aliens. This is a new office (term used loosely) in an obviously previously abandoned farmhouse in someone else's backyard. We nearly went next door into someone's house until I noticed an extremely faded life-sized cardboard thingy of two smiling, attractive immigration officers. I'm tempted to sue them over the trade's description act! It's just not what it says on the can...
