Cheap, fun bar sought?
For imported beers 70 baht represented only about 100% gross profit years ago - even less on things like Erdinger. The average rents have probably gone up about 4 times or more in the last 5 to 7 years, and bars are doing well not to have increased beer prices in proportion to their actual outgoings IMO. If they did pass on increased outgoings we really would have grounds for a moan!PET wrote:70 Baht a beer is around 200% gross profit - is this really so cheap?
The rents are too high and that is the main cause of the problem.

Yes it's cheap in the main entertainment area of a major tourist resort, surrounded by friendly girls (if that's your thing), just metres from the beach and spitting distance from 5 star hotels, massive selection of great restaurants, shops, a market, massage/salons, taxi services etc etc. If people are not happy with those prices they can travel 5-10 minutes out of town centre and save probably 15 Baht, what services/facilities they get there though is a bit limited.PET wrote:70 Baht a beer is around 200% gross profit - is this really so cheap?
And it's not about gross profit is it, it's about nett profit after operating costs .... unless you're selling it warm out of a cardboard box on the street corner

IMO we shouldn't be surprised rents are getting higher in the centre of town (near the beach front) in a resort that developing and becoming more popular, current global recession blip aside.

It's cheap for me, I'm paying £3.75 a pint for Peroni beer and a decent glass of Merlot will set me back around £5.80, here in the UK.
and I don't get any of the amenities that SJ listed.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Wow, that's cheap. Our office Christmas binge last year saw us in 2 places selling Peroni. In the first it was £6 a pint, and in the second they only sold half pints - £3.50.Khundon1975 wrote:It's cheap for me, I'm paying £3.75 a pint for Peroni beer

Hi, I like a spin down to the binta block every now & then
The bar we used to pop into, the prices went from 70 for a small Chang or Leo to 80 then 90 Baht in quicksticks...outrageous I would say. That particular bar had 6 customers at midnight on Friday, it would have normally have been packed.
Needless to say we have moved on to bar that sells at 70 bahts again.
I don't know how long that price will remain.
With the current rate to the euro/pound etc, having a tipple in Hua Hin is not what it used to be.
I still believe tha Hua Hin is short of a good bar with a variety of music for a mixed crowd.....unless anyone knows any different?
Cheers Paderborn

My advice;
Stay away from cheap bars. They stink, they are filthy and the staff and girls are only out to take you. Chances are that your fellow customers while watching rugby, will drool all over you - if not vomit on you. And they will keep on requesting pop music from the 70´s and 80´s while fondling the buttocks of a khatoy...
Find yourself a bar to your liking and look for inexpensive drinks. It's not very difficult.

Peroni beer - What is it?

Just back after recent illness:-
What is Peroni beer? I've been drinking beer for 40+ years and have never heard of it. A Southern beverage?
BaaBaa.
£2.50 Oop North
For a pint BaaBaa - that's expensive, my local, GBP 1.75 for cask ales, e.g. Black Sheep, Bombadier, Black Cat mild.
Yes I know -

I tell you what though, given that 1GBP = 50THB then 70 Baht for a small beer is pretty damned expensive in my opinion. I know HH is a 'tourist' area but 70 for a crap beer?!
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.
