Good man, Takiap. I always start with a cold can of Chang at Dolphin Bay and there's a little pit stop at the 6th tee where you can get cold Leo
DB's a nine hole course and there's no need for caddies.

 buksi finally got a birdie today ... 7th at DB (110 yards or so), pitching wedge in to about four feet ... and made the putt!

Its only taken me 18 months and the rest of the round was retarded so still didn't break 50 but we'll forget about that!

Yes good effort, you're doing better than I ever did; I played for about three years and never got under 120, which is why I stopped.

I know the feeling, I'm stuck at around 110, no matter what I do I can't break that - 230 yard drive down the middle then bugger up the second shot, or get on the green in two and then 4-putt. It just never seems to come together ... I f'kin hate this game sometimes!

Well done buksi ! Its those great shots that keep pullin us back!
:thumb:

Heard a whisper that Tiger may play quite soon, really wonder how he will take the flack and also could be really tough on his playing partners - its always was difficult to play with him but now could be even worse.

JW,
On the QT, you might like to ask him who lined his put up  buksida, I mean.

Well done Buksi

Just trying to get my head around something here considering I've not yet been on a course:

Is that hole 110 yards from Tee to the green? If so, what club do you tee off with because am I wrong in thinking a driver would hit the ball way to far? The reason I'm asking is because I get to the 112 yard flag on the driving range using that 6 iron I bought. Everyone using drivers tends to send their balls to kingdom come and back.

Sorry if I'm missing something but hey, we have to start somewhere. Hopefully I'll be on the course within the next month or two.

Last question for the day.......can anyone offer some advice as to whether I should buy a set of clubs or if I should rather buy individual ones. I ask this because I've just read that as a complete beginner, I would probably be better off playing without a driver, and instead, simply use a 5 and 7 wood. Just wandering which option is best because I've also seen some nice set for sale for around 10,000 baht.

Thanks for replies

Takiap, I'm the last person you should be asking for golf advice but I'll have a go anyway ...

Its a par 3 hole so only 110 yards from the tee to the pin, you would tee off with a 8/9 iron or pitching wedge usually, whatever you're more comfortable with. I usually take the 9 and don't make a full swing but this time used the wedge and it worked out ok.

As a beginner I wouldn't bother with the driver for a few months, its a completely different animal! You can pick up a half decent set of used irons for about 6-8k, have a look in the Outlet shop in Cha-am, the golf shop in Pranburi, or on the classifieds website (golf kit in Hua Hin is overpriced).

I would also have a couple of lessons with a local pro as it is very easy to pick up bad habits from the start. John Wither puts a lot of golfers on the right track, he can be found at the Tavimook driving range past Soi 10 on Petchkasem road.

How about joining us for the hackers day out?

As buksida has waxed lyrical about his birdie yesterday, thought I'd blow my own trumpet as well.
Yesterday was the best, tee to green at Dolphin Bay, that I've played over the past 18 months since I restarted. 39 in the morning and 39 in the afternoon (+5 on both occasions).
The morning was particularly good bearing in mind that it contained one 3 putt, one missed par put from 18 inches and a double bogey at the 110 yd 7th - those pot bunkers are tricky.
I now firmly believe that the practice sessions on Friday and Saturday helped just a bit with my score. Bring on more practice - especially on and around the greens!!

Lomu u stood the chance of gettin some serious stick if he had missed it... remember that judo stuff he does!!! Good stuff your self mate, try the practise ground at Black Mountain,,,,great for short game stuff!
Takieb, Buksi is right get some lessons now!!!!! Its the only way i promise. If you have good hand speed and decent basics you should get at least 130 yards out of a 6 iron.
Driver is actually now one of the easiest clubs to hit (if you buy a new huge headed thing)!! get something with a large head and maybe 12 degrees of loft so that you can get it flying.

Keep having fun out there everyone! :thumb:

Best deals during the low seaon

Post by qatarkiwi »

Hi guys I am looking for a little help/advice on my golfing options in Hua Hin. My wife and are coming for a month in June/July and I am wondering if there will be any green fee specials on during this time. I was in Hua Hin a few years back and played Black Mountain, just after it had opened, Royal Hua Hin and Palm Hills. I enjoyed them all, I am hoping to play a bit this time round but don't really want to break the bank. Any thoughts and/or advice would be much appreciated.
