Went Tesco's yesterday, found it really good.

Excellent selection of quality fruit and veg, cheaper than I pay elsewhere.
Great selection of fresh fish. Salmon steaks cheaper than I pay elsewhere. Market is still best for fish and seafood IMO, but can be pain in market if you don't speak good Thai.
Loads of fresh meat and poultry (ready cooked whole garlic chickens looked tasty). Had a Thai T-bone last night and seemed better quality, more tender than I get elsewhere.
Smaller selection of imported NZ beef and lamb, they could do with more there.
Bacon looked ok, no real 'English sausages' that I saw.
No pastry items that I saw.
Good Sushi section.
Big choice of cereals.

Big plus was the check-outs, no queues. 22 aisles all with a cashier and two packers, interesting to see if they keep that level up!?

All in all, thought it was massive improvement on current choice in town.

Yes, very spacious indeed. Some beef items, not as much as I was hoping for, though. Prices for beef are ok, exept for mince, which is still 70-90 baht/kg more expensive than in Bangers. Agree with Burger about the seafood and sushi sections.

Is it just food, or do they sell hardware, tools etc?

Poisoner,

The HomePro upstairs from Tesco's has a big selection of tools.
Plus all the usual stuff, furniture, kitchen's, lights, hardware, tiles, bathroom suites, lawnmowers, BBQ's, TV's, stereo's etc etc.

I found the HomePro to have the more attractive staff. Nicer uniforms.

But what about the Ten Pin Bowling Alley.

Anyone have any news on that.

I think the bowling alley and the movie theatre will open soon. Somebody said they saw a sign saying that there's only a few days to the official opening.

So, overall the prices are cheaper there?
Was it busy?
How was the traffic outside?

I found prices a mixture of slightly cheaper, same or slightly more expensive. Doesn't help much does it !!
The big difference seems to be a larger selection/range and better quality than where I used to shop.

Yes, quite busy, but it's a massive spacious place so no queues etc. 22 no. aisles all with 1 cashier and 2 packers.

Traffic on Petchakasem was fine but bit of traffic around the complex getting up to the main exit.
Lots of little men in big suits blowing whistles at you for no apparent reason. Bit like Premiership referees.

PS: One of the officials in there said bowling alley and cinema open later next month, March.

Sorry for this, as it is an ignorant and patronising comment, but I'm going to make it all the same. The thought of coming all the way from Reading to Hua Hin and going to Tesco makes me want to cry.

And yes, I have shopped at Tesco Lotus before and yes I will go there when I'm in HH in a couple of weeks. But it's just not right.

This is true, but when you have lived in Asia for 7 years, these things are like little slices of home that we do miss.

I know what you mean Jim but you can't deny development from people in the countries you find charming because they lack development. That would be the same if I said that I find it sad that people in England don't live in Stonehenge like conditions any more (or in the woods of Sherwood)

Wines and rest of the alco at Tesco seemed more expensive and of poorer selection than at Halex.
I shall continue my custom at Halex where I've never gotten but good service and best prices in HH.

Cold cuts and cheese seemed more expensive and selection much poorer at Tesco than at All In Hua Hin.
I shall continue my custom at All in Hua Hin where the price has allways been right and the quality unsurpassed.

¡Evviva Halex y AiHH!

Selection of fruit, fish and vegetable were impressive in Tesco. Do not know of the prices, however.

A set of hex-wrenches was 68 B at Tesco, 142 at HomePro. Exactly same set.
