Retirement visa extension and 90 day report
Retirement visa extension and 90 day report
Hi
May have been raised on this thread before but the way things change almost daily, I thought I would pose this question
My 90 report is due on the 13th of February. My visa extension is due on the 21st of March. Is there any way I can combine the 2 like bring the visa extension forward a month?
I intend doing it in Khon Kaen as I am registered in that province and also they have less traffic, are friendlier and more lenient. Oh and better organised.
Any advice appreciated
ps If the visa extension backfires at least it gives me a month to sort

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

The 90 day report you can make 1 week later (if it has not changed, as indicated by a post), up to 20th February. The visa extension you can make 1 month (or 30 Days?) earlier. If 1 month it would be 21st February, if 30 days it would be 19th February. So you should ask the immigration before.
I had no problems in Hua Hin this year. 90 day reporting was due on 10th January, visa extension on 29th January. I went on 13th January. The office was completely full with foreigners, but after 1 hour I had my visa extension.

Thanks gents
I will go for it. As I said KK are very lenient and I may get a deal where the 2 will match

Well it was so easy here in KK
Did my retirement visa extention today. Turned up with letter and copy of embassy letter, passport and copy, photo (1), duly completed form, blue book and copy (needed as I am registered as a resident at a private house, The wifes). All accepted and in and out in 15 minutes at 1 pm today.
Someone was asking about the duration of the embassy letter. They kept the copy after reading the original one and handed me the original back and said it was valid for 2 years.
I did my visit 30 days before the due date but I am stamped for a year from the date 30 days from now. No change though to the 90 day reporting date.
To me I have had less hassle, less confusion and more cooperation since using Khon Kaen and prior to that Nong Khai. Almost worth picking an address (hotel) in KK and registering yourself as a KK resident and taking a trip up from HH for the annual renewal. Holiday in Isaan too!!!
Euphoria
Party time tonight
Incidentally there were 2 Germans pitched up looking like middle aged drunken beachbums who were treating the whole thing as a joke. They were told very politely to go away and come back properly dressed and sober
Hear hear

In KK there is someone I know who has used a letter that was over 12 months old.
According to some on the website they have been told the letter is valid for years. All very confusing. I will of course err on the safe side and get an annual renewal

Does anyone know if the earnings letter from the Embassy has to be verified by the Thai Min of Foreign Affairs in Chaeng Wattana as information from my local immigration office (Nong Khai) suggests. I was hoping to apply for the letter by post and do without a trip to Bangkok.
The last extension I did was in Bangkok and the letter wasn't verified but that was a couple of years ago.
Also, has anyone else tried to register on the Embassy site? I've tried twice now and failed to receive the confirmation email on both occasions. I believe you have to register before you can apply for the earnings letter by post.

Not sure about Nong Khai but certainly not in Khon Kaen. Thought Nong Khai applicants had been redirected to KK. I was
Got my registeration on the Locate database after several attempts and a phone call to the Embassy

There should be no need for the letter to have MFA verification as long as it's in English or Thai.
However, I heard that they were asking for the verification in Pattaya a while ago but that's now stopped. They don't ask for it here in HH. I'm afraid it's one of those situations where the individual office can make its own rules up. You'll have to check.
I believe you need to be registered with the British Embassy to get a letter full stop. It dosn't just apply to postal applications. I did it on the internet a number of years ago, but I can't recall if I ever got a confirmation email back. You could try calling them at the consular section to inquire if they've processed it. Failing that, it might be able to do it at The Embassy itself, but I'm not sure and it won't help you if you want to bypass a personal visit.
All the information on letter and registration should be here:

I tried to sign up last year but received no email confirmation. I went to the Consulate and received the pension confirmation letter without any problem.
I applied by post this year and also had no problem, however after many tries at registering I think I succeeded but never received any email confirming this, but recently received a Travel Update, so they must know I am around!

Thanks for all the help chaps. I think I will try the postal route without the verification and see if that works. If no, I'm close to the border and can get a three month Non O from Ventiane fairly easily.
Sorry about the delayed response. Being up in the sticks now I have to rely on a wireless modem for my internet connection and it doesn't always work. I look back om my 1Mb from TTT in Hua Hin with fondness.
