20 hurt in train derailment in South

A Yala-Nakhon Si Thammarat train derailed in Songkhla's Na Mom district on Thursday morning, injuring about 20 people. Five passengers, including a pregnant woman, were seriously hurt.

Reports said the locomotive and one carriage jumped the tracks shortly before the train reached Hat Yai station.

The train derailed on a curve where several accidents have previously happened.

Again! Why not investigate it and pinpoint/fix the problem if it's happening in the same area all the time. But, of course, that would make too much sense, wouldn't it? It really is a bit 'Yahoo!' at the SRT. If ever a service needed shaking up then it's this dinosaur.

There was an article today about an announcement made by a woman sub-minister of the transport department saying studies have shown that the best high speed line would be from Bangkok, south to hook up with Malaysia and on to Singapore. The only real reason she gave for this was, "..people along that route are better off and have more money....".

Obviously this exercise is once again completely 100% commercial rather than an infrastructure improvement to help people in the North and Issan to get to where the work is. Sad, and they wonder why there is a red shirt movement. Pete
