Post by nevets »

I have had no mail from the UK in over 2 yrs , Christmas cards and Birthday
cards and 2 weeks ago my son cent a letter which he had the address written in Thai and that has not come . We get mail for bills and and other things . So how long does a letter take to get to THAILAND from the UK.
Thank you

Suppose I'm a bit lucky in as much as I've got a Box number at the PO. In the past 10 years or so with that, there might have been the occasional letter that hasn't arrived, but anything important that I'm waiting for always has.
I allow 7-10 days for mail to get here from the UK and vice versa.

Nevets...its been a problem for a long while, rumours were abound that the local HH sorting office staff were pocketing any mail coming from Europe in the hope some Farang was still dumb enuf to send cash by post.
I solved the dillema of getting Valentines cards to Mrs U.S. by having the addresses written in Thai except the word 'THAILAND'...yes both cards got to her...and she says thats about the 1st time she's got my incoming cards.

Very common problem. Posties open much mail from Uk as stated.
If they take out they often take home and open it there.
Only chance is address in Thai but eben then the thieving gits wil still try to steal
Official letters of complaint get nowhere.

My wife is from Tha Yang and sends letters from here in California to her Father, not often, but at times.

Have not heard of one not getting there.

Could be the area you are in, or the fact that Dad in law is a retired cop and his brother, across the canal, is a active cop?

As with Lomu - I rarely had a problem when using a PO Box in HH. There are certainly problems though with any mail which may include cash - and people simply shouldn't put cash in the post wherever it's going.
I also found that for some reason letters in proper airmail envelopes were generally delivered more quickly than plain envelopes with 'airmail' written on them. That may well be an issue with sorting in the country of origin.
Try to get a PO box - and advise folks back home to always use airmail envelopes. They should also avoid posting any cards which have 'lumpy' decorations on them, or which play those daft tunes!

Until you manage to vget hold of one of the much coveted PO Boxes, I've said it several times in previous threads, pay a little more and use a signed for service - I've never had any problems that way.

Yes i keep forgetting we do not live in a civilized country where the simple thing of expecting mail to get to one,s address is simply not contested.

Having a PO box is no guarantee - I have mail from the UK sent to my PO box, and have had no UK mail delivered there since September last year - I know I am missing at least 4 packages.

I have received some mail from the USA though

DSB - mail here in the UK is a problem at the moment apparently, with quite a lot of mainland mail going missing or undelivered as well.
Might be an idea for anyone posting parcels to you from the UK to use recorded delivery. That way they can track progress of the parcel online, and at least see if - and when - a parcel has left the country.
I've used the system for mainland letters and it's very easy.

Thanks for that, Mags. In the past I have had packages arrive about 6 - 9 months late!

From what you say, it may not be the Thai post at fault, but a backlog of mail piled up somewhere in the UK!

I've had that problem before. When I enquired at the UK end they told me that with standard delivery it's pot luck regarding the transportation method. Some go by air, but the rest goes by tramp steamer.

Use a premium to be signed for service, and you'll probably get whatever it is you're not getting at the moment. If it's not worth paying that little extra, is it really worth the grief of complaining?

You probably don't want to hear this, but it's got to be said, ""T. I. T."

BB -

For the past 10 years I have not had a huge problem with mail from the UK, it has always been sent air mail, and usually took 10 - 14 days to arrive.
For some important mail recently, I used DHL.

As I said earlier, perhaps the problem is back in the UK postal system.
