Thanks JW. I'll head for Bernies on the Saturday night and get a breifing. I must admit I'm getting a wee bit excited about getting back to Thai golf courses. Now I have to look up Lake View. Thanks again.

Don't forget to bring your current golf club handicap certificate, otherwise you will not be able to play with the societies/roll-ups'

Yeah thanks Pet, got a plastic card for that. It's all internet based here in Oz. Should I do a screen print or take the card to Bernies for them to confirm via internet.

Managed to get through to Kaeng Krachan earlier (tel 032 422145) and they are doing the Sports Day on Tuesdays now as well as Thursdays. Even better, the green and caddie fees have dropped to 800THB incl and there's no extra charge for playing the Mountain/Nicklaus 9.

Just take your card with you, Berny will explain how they work with visitors. Maybe catch you there for a beer!

Great idea JW. I'll be arriving HH about 4-5 PM, quick snooze, then down to Bernies to make sure they are not selling any crook beer. My understanding is that Bernies is not one of those girlie bars where you get harangued for drinks. I take it they have a pool table there?

OK JW I have your number, thanks. Will call late Saturday if I get a clear run through the airport. I packed up the golf sticks last night. Can I presume that good used balls can be bought "on course" at most places? I mean like 150 baht for a bag of 10 or similar. I'll need a few "chicken" balls as well if there is plenty of water about.

Balls better bought in the street, one lady around most nights, there is a bit of water so good to have some spare ammo!

Saw this in the Bangkok Post. Could be a good idea as if you deduct the normal golf fees the Garden room probably nets out at about 2,500. Deposit wife and kids for a special weekend of hi-so for them, and you take off for the links! :D Pete

I was told two weeks ago that Springfield Golf Club was so short of water that they have closed the '' C '' course and are no longer watering the fairways ( only tees and greens )

Unless they want to do terrible long term damage to their fairways they should rule that all players ( on the fairway) place the ball on a tee and then play their shot - otherwise they may well have to close their course quite soon.

@ PET

Confirmed
a friend of mine came back this week and said they stopped watering th FW's

I do not know why they have no water in the bassin's but the condition of the course was very good one month ago, will have to see next month how things are now.

Can't really understand it myself because it's not as if we usually get any rain at this time of year. In fact, this is the first time in four years that I've not had to get water delivered to our property. From what I've heard, it probably boils down to bad management. I've also heard the service at the clubhouse is rather dismal, and that it doesn't end there either. Oh well, it doesn't affect me because I've not yet been on a course, but when I do, I'll more than likely try thye military course in Pranburi first.

Any news on the new one opening in Takiap?

Cheers

Good, with fairways like the free course at Dolphin Bay they may have to come down to a realistic price...

Played Milford yesterday, or 'The Eagle' as it is called now, and dry doesn't even come close - some great views on that back 9 though! It was quite amusing watching the caddy pour sand into holes in the dirt!
