And from what I've seen helping several people open accounts is the 'visa exempt' status is fine. A Thai address, but no proof of address has been required, people having a house built have given their real estate agents or lawyers address without a problem.
As said in an earlier post I'd recommend one of the banks in Market Village, Siam Commercial, Kasikorn or Krung Thai, they're open 7 days a week and open until early evening. Never any queues.

The wife was updating her Kasikorn account and setting up for internet access. I strolled in at the end of it. She said, "Oh, let me put my husband on the account"
It took 5 minutes, and my passport.
Could have been easy since it was an existing account for many years.

Be aware that if you want the bank to automatically pay water an electricity bills, the Hua Hin branches can only do that if you live in Hua Hin. If you live in i.e. Cha-Am (like I do) you need to open in a Cha-Am branch.Super Joe wrote:And from what I've seen helping several people open accounts is the 'visa exempt' status is fine. Re: Opening a bank account in Thailand
Wouldn't it be a good idea for one (or more) of the big Thai banks to open up a small division within their bank named "Expat Overseas Bank". Have a separate desk or sub-office at their main Bangkok, tourist resort and up-country main city branches, manned by an expat English speaking banking officer. Special current, savings and investment accounts geared for resident expats, and seamless/discounted transfer options from the client's overseas bank. Are you listening Thai Banks? Naahhh, it's too good of an idea.
